Windsreen Questions

Hi all, Last post today I promise,LOL.

I want to get the windscreen for my 350. The installation of the MB factory is 3 PC. It looks like it slides into a mounting device that wraps around the roll bar loops, is this correct. Then the screen slides in. Is the monting pc 2 parts? I want to upgrade to the chrome roll bars and do not want to cover them up. If you the MB screen let me know if there is any other negatives you do not like.

Does anyone have the aftermarket screen that you add a bracket behind the rear storage compartment? I looks like there is a gap so it doesn't touch the roll bars. If you have this one how do you like it and is there any negatives. Is the bracket brushed or polished? Does it stay tight and not rattle? I found it on formymercedes.com and its only $279 and would not hide any of the chrome roll bars which they also sell. Looks like I will be spending some money with them.

Thanks for the help

The factory windscreen is three pieces. There are two pieces that go on the roll bars and then the middle plexiglass part snaps in a secures to each of the outer pieces. They are molded to fit right into the factory roll bars so if you change those it will NOT work. I have one and i LOVE it.

Thanks Boston,

You are correct if i go to the chrome roll bars the stock MB windscreen will not fit. It would also cover up the chrome which looks sweet. So now I need to know if anyone has the one from www.formymercedes.com for $279.00. Do you like it positive and negative etc. I talked with Jerry from there and he is a real nice guy. I will be getting a few things from them, the rear spoiler paint to match for just of $300 is a smoking deal. They also have the illuminated sill plates coming soon.

What's with the gaps between the roll bars and the windscreen? Looks rather shaky.

Was wondering the same thing Bear. Like to hear from someone who has one first. Was wondering about it rattling too with only to bolts holding it in place.
Could be a sqeeker too.

There's a fine mesh material inside the roll bars that are integrated into the piece that wraps around the roll bar. Despite what you might think, it looks very good. I love the thing because even though it's ridiculously pricey, it's looks absolutely integrated into the car. It looks like it belongs with the car. A great fit, very secure and it does not rattle at all. I bought it to reduce turbulence and I think the airscarf is more effective with it. If you have a great head of hair, love the wind through it and live where the weather is nice most of the time, you probably don't need it. But if you're like me and live where is gets cold and want to maintain your reduced hair dignity, the windscreen is a great choice.

BMWnomore,

Is your the factory windscreen? I like it but am thinking of chrome roll bars and dont want to cover them up. But im not sure now. Is solid on much better the the sock that comes with the car. Was out yesterday and it was 53 and cloudy and I had to turn the seats and air scarf to 1 and it was very comfortable. Even the wife who is always cold was very comfortable. Now rule #1 is if its 50 and not raining the top must be down. Got lots of thumbs up for corvettes, all with there tops up. Sweet!!!!!!

I personally think the three piece unit works better than the mesh one. I didn't use the mesh one that much but found it seemed kind of cheesy looking when installed, reduced visibility behind (looking through the mesh kind of bothered me). And yes, it is the MB OEM unit that costs $ 449.00 US. But many have gotten at least ten percent off, some twenty. I got ten percent off by whining a little. Finally, if you are going to go with the chrome roll bars, the three peice unit will definitely not work. I don't think it will fit right and it definitely would look horrible as the unit is black and curly cues around the roll bar. In fact, I don't think you would be able to use the mesh one either as it snaps to the bottom of the stock roll bars.

Had the screen "net" on our SLK230 and it absolutely sucked... so bought a plexiglass windscreen from myroadster.net and it worked fine.

Now, on our new SLK350, we bought the MB plexiglass windscreen and it's slick, indeed. Can remove just the center plexiglass portion in about two seconds for easy cleaning. It looks fantastic and works even better. The outer two pieces install in about 30 seconds and snap into place securely. Should have been a standard item. The center piece just slides into place and locks securely with two integrated tabs. Beautiful!

PS: Anyone need to buy an unused SLK350 wind-net??? CHEAP!

Glass Wind Blocker?

Does anyone know anything about a glass wind blocker? I saw a mention about it on a thread. I think it is made by Carlson or one of the other after market companies.

I don't notice any difference between the stock mesh screen and nothing at all. Not to mention the fact that I think the stock mesh is just kinda ugly. Think it destroys the lines of the twin roll bars. I go without a windscreen all together, quite happily...

docrings,
I assume you bought the windscreen that is on myroadster.net. However, you seem to describe the MB windscreen whereas the windscreen on myroadster.net looks different. Can you please clarify what you have? PS. What did you pay for it?

Thanks, dsb

I think what he is saying is that he bought a plexiglass windscreen for his last slk from myroadster.net. Sounds like he bought the genuine MB unit for his new slk350. The price was $ 449.00 US and I got ten percent off, although I just read that MB has raised the price to almost $ 600.00!!! I have the windscreen and think it's great, but $ 600.00 is totally ridiculous! I don't think I would have gotten one if it was that price.

I wish this place is in US. The price for the windshield including shipping is $532. Still more than what I can get it here ($653 - 20% no tax).
Thanks for the link anyway.

Anyone else knows US dealer that have wholesale program and still sell this at the old pricing? I have a shop and can setup wholesale account.

Agreed. I already thought it was outrageous at the old price, but I'm glad I've got it.
