Msrp

Hey, I just joined the forums and am pretty much set on buying the slk 350 black on black with comfort, heating, wood trim, and entertainment with navi. Dealers are having a hard time locating this particular combination of stuff so its taking some time.

Anyways I was wondering how much is reasonable to ask off msrp for cars. Let me know what you all have paid and original prices. Thanks.

I basically paid $1400 over invoice or about $2000 -2200 below msrp. I didnt haggle much after I found the color/options I wanted. Very happy.

A lot has to do with where you live. In some parts of the world you can negotiate. In others it's list price.

There was no negotiating on the SLK in my neck of the woods. However, the negotiating came into play with my trade. They gave me a very fair deal on my 2002 Miata Special Edition. Herb Chambers Motorcars of Boston was an excellent dealer to do business here in MA.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Do you mind sharing which dealer this is from?

Also, does anyone know when the 06 models are available for build?

pricing

I purchased my car from sacramento, ca. I first used the internet to get a hold of the internet sales manager. Just so you know, many internet managers are not paid on the 'front end' or 'back end' but receive commission based on the total purchase price. Therefore, you can usually get better pricing.

BTW
front end = profit between invoice and msrp
back end = profit made usually by manuf. kickbacks and profit from financing

Again, a reg sales associate gets more money based on how high he can keep the purchase price. You can imagine if the car is marked up $3000 over invoice, the sales rep loses a lot if he were to drop it $2000. He would only get a percentage of the $1000 profit. Whereas an internet manager gets a percentage of the entire purchase price. $2000 drop in price doesn't affect him as much.

Lastly, I know some dealerships work this way... probably not all. So, I can only hope you get the best price possible. My belief is that internet users are usually more savy and can demand a lower price because of the competitive nature of online shopping.

Whatever price you pay, you will be happy once you drive off. It's a great car.

Don't forget about holdback...it's 3 % of MSRP..so for a 50K car it's $1500. Add that to your example of $1000 profit and the dealer really has a profit of $2500.
