SLK/R171: current 05' 350 engine 3-valve/4-valve?

97' BMW 328is (E36)
current 05' 350 engine 3-valve/4-valve?
I am a bit confused. The current 55 engine is 3-valve but the current 350 engine is 4-valve? Or is the 350 3-valve but the new 280 4-valve?

The 3.5 in the 350 is the first of a line of new DOHC 4V engine design for MB. The DOHC 4V's will be replacing all of the SOHC 3V's in the future. So the 280 will have the 2ed DOHC 4V engine (a 3.0L DOHC 4V I think).
