Called the dealer to have the OEM nav installed, but they said it cannot be done because after checking my VIN #, the car does not have the "code" for the nav to be installed???? Huh, is this true? What kind of a code are they talking about? He would not explain any further. Just said that the "code" is only programmed in the factory and I am out of luck.

 

Although I certainly cannot say for sure, I suspect that he means that there is some kind of manufacturing code that tells him what is and is not in the car. Having visited the factory, there are manufacturing codes they use to indicate what is to be installed in each car on the production line. I suspect that the "code" for your car means that something was not installed, most likely the correct wiring harness, that would be required for the dealer to install an option that was not installed at the factory. It almost certainly is not a software "code" that could be reprogrammed in a computer.

 

Who cares what codes a car came with...factory nav can always be installed after delivery.

We have succesfully installed comand headunits with audio gateways and navigation drives in several R171 SLKs...in fact we just finished installing a comand with HK amp and speakers in an SLK350 today...that car came from factory with an audio 20 which means that it does not have the proper wiring that is required for the comand and nav drive...but that doesn't mean that comand and nav cannot be retrofitted.
