SLK/R171: Voice control / Linguatronic for the SLK revealed.....

As the switch and steering housing are both SLK parts then this confirms that the option is possible on SLK with adequate combinations of parts as used in the CLS. It is however speculation only at this stage as I have not completed any transformation of an SLK into a Linguatronic capable car.
Will report back once I see one operating in Australia. BE AWARE that Australian compatible part numbers may be totally useless in the USA. For kits please contact MBENZNL (Steve)
In order below -
Steering cover without memory and with memory
Control switch with Voice control and speed limiter
UK control module

Enables you to
-----------------
- Dial numbers by voice, add and delete phone book entries, enter pin codes and also scroll phone book, select name to dial.
- control radio band, radio station selection by voice (no searching)
- control TV by voice
- control CD stacker, CD selection and track selection by voice
- control navigation, input some destinations (in COMAND DVD version).
The main reason you never heard of it before is because it is not sold for the SLK .... so in that regard you are quite correct.
It is however proposed here that you can add this function with some help from Steve.

using voice commands. For example, instead of changing radio channels mannually,
you just say "switch to channel X", and the desired radio channel will be turned
on automatically.
I think people should be careful about buying this unit. The current state-of-art
voice recognition technology is good but not great, training of the voice recognition
software/hardware/firmwire is absolutely vital to its effectiveness. For example,
if someone who has a very heavy Southern American or Scotish or Asian
accent buys a linguatronic unit trained to recognize London accents, he/she might
find it very frustrating to use.
