Rain sensor rumor
Hi,
I think I read somewhere that every R171 comes equipped with the Rain sensor
for the wipers, but unless you pay for that option, the dealers will not activate
it in software. Could someone confirm/deny this?
Thanks a lot.

a rumor, maybe there is some special hardware that we have to pay for.

I did manage to get the wiper switch to behave in the correct manner and the OCP did accept the settings put to it.

Same unit is used in the A-Class (169) SLK (171) and B (245)
Light and rain
----------------------------------
A 171 820 15 26 (code setting 28)
A 171 820 37 26 (code setting 30)
A 171 820 39 26 (code setting 32)
Light only
----------------------------------
A 171 820 30 26 (code setting 28)
A 171 820 38 26 (code setting 30)
A 171 820 40 26 (code setting 32)
The code setting is VERY important as it relates to a menu setting in the OCP (thing in the middle on the top of the windscreen)
Prices range from 52 Euro - 35 Euro for the units.
It appears that the reason why the activation doesnt work is that some cars only have a light sensor

It seems that a very very small percentage of cars were fitted with rain sensors for free and that the rest of the cars were built with ONLY a light sensor unless it was ordered.
In the SLK55 I understand that the rain sensor is always there.

greetingz,
In AUSTRALIA the AMG always comes with a rain sensor if such a function is sold for that car. The rain sensor is now standard on all C-class with Parktronic. The CLK now also has Thermotronic / Climatronic in all models. But the rain sensor is not standard on SLK in Australia. It is orderable.

In the "LIGHT" only version the black squares are not present. That is the only supposed difference. It appears that according to the diagnostic that there are now 2 more part numbers with new coding.
