SLK280 wrong temperature showing

my temperature on the display is acting up. a few nights while driving with my roof down, I noticed the temperature was displaying 111 degree fahrenheit; it must be like 72 degree outside then. Does anyone know if it's a big problem i should worry about. Don't have time to take car to dealer til next week.

This is the outside air temperature sensor you're talking about?

The sensor is not always very accurate, it always tends to show a few temperature a few degrees higher then the actual air temperature.

However, that wouldn't exlain why it's so much higher on your car. What might have happened, is that the sensor has fallen off and has lodged itself somewhere in the engine bay where the warmth of the engine is heating it up.

I don't know where the sensor usually should be on the SLK 280, but on my old 230K, it was up in the front, a few inches from one of the fog lights.
