Do you guys feel the lag?
I have a 280 Automatic, I have noticed that the car takes a long time to switch gears. Like when i am going on 5th and I drop to 4, I dunt feel the push instantly. but after like a second or two.. the car revs to a higher rpm and then i feel the push.
I have also noticed that the engine is slightly louder than the other mercs, not the exhaust but the engine itself and specially when the AC is on...
also when i move the steering all the to the left or right i hear the engine go louder.. any body experience the above?
Thanks.

Everything....
except the engine being louder when I turn. But then again, I have not really looked specifically for that.
None of it truly bothers me except the 'lag' in the AT. This is the first AT I've ever owned, and I thought it was just typical for this type of transmission
Although I will admit that there are times my car does have very responsive shifting.

I've felt it too. My thoughts are that the tranny is getting confused. I have heard (I dont know if its true) that the tranny learns the habits of the driver so if you haul butt a lot then switch to driving in a more refined manner, the tranny is still trying to shift in the manner you taught it while driving aggressively. Just a thought.

Its a "feature" of the auto box and the main reason I cancelled my SLK55 order. I found that the box was fairly good in C or S modes and shifted almost as quickly as I'd like and at the times I would expect (although I don't like the way it doesn't change down through the box as you slow down). The thing I hated was the manual mode as the bloody thing wouldn't react quickly enough to my change requests and sometimes ignored me all together...... on one occassion the AMG test car I had even jumped out of gear and revved with no forward motion! Other car makers make manual transmissions that can handle the power/torque so I don't see why AMG/MB can't or won't!?

Have you seen the link its a way of resetting the auto, say that you bought the car from an 80 year old lady and the auto had set itself to her style of driving, this is a way of taking it back to zero and start again.
