Angry 2007 Options in US

I'm thinking about buying a 2007 SLK 280 with manual transmission though European Delivery. My salesperson walked me through the options today and it seems the choices are much reduced compared to 2006. There are basically just these packages left: wood trim, lighting, AMG, appearance, heating, run-flat, premium 1, 2 and 3.

The premium packages are incremental to each other. Premium 1 has garage door opener, power seats+steering column with memory, autodimming mirrors, rain sensor, sirius, ambient light, IR roof control and is over 2 grand. Premium 2 has COMAND headunit, phone prep and and H/K soundsystem over premium 1. Premium 3 has NAV on top of that.

Now, the one option I'm sure I want is the heating package, which, thank god, can still be had by itself. The other options I was interested in were NAV and H/K sound, but those would now cost me close to 5 grand with the premium 3 package, because I'd be forced to get ALL other premium 3 options also. This sucks! I guess I'll just go with the heating package and leave it at that.

Any opinions about aftermarket solutions for NAV and H/K?

As far as colors, I really like Mars Red, but I was wondering whether that flashy color doesn't make the car the proverbial cop magnet. You Mars Red guys out there, should I be concerned about the possibility of amassing speeding tickets driving this car?

Oh, I almost forgot - did anyone manage to get a discount off the 7% for ED?

I got 9% off for ED a year ago, but I shopped 4 different dealers before I found one that would do it. Technically they are not supposed to, but...

P.S. I like Airscarf

I bought one today off the lot, for 10% off MSRP! It has the 2006 comfort package that I didn't really want, but hey, it's still a great deal. I guess it was because it's right at the end of the 2006 model cycle, and literally the last hours of the month. I'm a happy camper.

The dealership tried to sell me some extras that I said I would think about until I'm picking up the car tomorrow: LoJack, extended warranty and PermaPlate. Any opinions on those?

Eww, dealer add-ons. Personally, I answered "no" (teleaid is fine and insurance companies treat it the same for premium adjustments), "yes", "no" (stuff usually washes off so soon as to be useless).

Discount for ED

We ordered a 2007 350 with premium 3, caspian blue metalic paint ($700) and a couple of other minor options and received a $4,000+ discount.

Enjoy

Sounds like the std 7% discount + no charge S&H as advertised by MBUSA.

I ordered my 2006 SLK 350 last Sept. (2005) for pickup in Stuttgart in December of that year. I managed to squeeze the dealer for an additional 3% over the standard 7%. Plus- the sensation of collecting your new car at the factory and then driving it throughout Europe (even with snow, rain, and lots of mud) is one fantastic experience.

Would you be kind enough as to tell me which dealership you dealt with.

The $4000 discount is from European delivered cars, 7% off the total to be exact, the more options you click, the more you save. I highly recommend it.
