I don't usually wear a hat when I drive topless but for days that's is too sunny, I wear this hat, free at the MB ML rally last summer.

This is a great hat to keep in the car. Full brim all the way around keeps sun off your neck, and sides of your face. But it's light, and can be crushed completely (say when you keep it in the trunk) and will snap back into shape. You can pull the tie up under your chin to hold it on so it will not blow off in the wind. Plus, it's not very expensive ($29.00)

Hat
I did a poll on the "other" popular 171 forum back 5/27/05 and expressed my fondness for my Tilley:
http://www.tilley.com/

Great durable and quality with sun protection...

...the way the back angles down prevents annoying bumping of the headrest...

Got my fill of wearing a hat during my military career. Once I left, I vowed, no more hats.

No bra, no hat, that's my motto.

Actually I have never driven topless now that I think of it, I'd probably burn. But hat-wise, I look dopey in every hat I've ever had, so I just don't wear one, even with the top down. Would like to have a hat that makes me look good, but that's asking a lot from just a hat.

I need a hat specialist like the What Not To Wear folks.

I found that hats like this blew off at 200 kph or so (on the autobahn of course). I use caps like http://www.orvis.com/store/product_c...ds*1102&bhcp=1

Vodil:

The Tilley actually has straps for the back side and under the chin and was designed for sailing in very windy conditions...doubt you could loose it if on properly for conditions...I often put the straps up in it when in more moderate conditions. Gives a lot more sun protection than the classic driving caps...

Hat?
I wear a visor. I'm fortunate that I have (at age 58) a great crop of hair. The visor is less prone to blowing off than a full hat. IMHO

But will it fit into the center console?

I picked up an Adidas Cool-Max baseball hat a couple of weeks ago and it works really well for me. The hat allows plenty of air through and still provides protection from the sun. Normal baseball hats make me sweat and this one does a great job without my head overheating. It fits easily into the door pocket or the center console.

Hopefully the attached pic of the hat comes through.
