SLK has many short antenna options, brabus, sl, and r170, do a search and you'll find description and pics for all of them.

Initially, I thought the SLK was cheap and ugly too. Since I have the Piecha module to remotely lower and raise the top, I love it. The factory antenna works best. There are smaller and more stylist antenas available that will limit receptions. Decide what's more important.

I agree that the stock antenna is a bit long and does not really suit the rear of the car. I tried the R170 antenna and I was not very happy with my remote range or my radio reception. After reading a few posts on the subject, I decided to cut my stock antenna in half. I think its a great compromise between looks and performance. I have noticed very little difference in FM reception and I get great range on the remote.

chrislk55, How did you do this? This would be a great aftermarket item for someone to manufacture. Did you try it with AM radio? If yes, how was the reception?

AM Radio works great, as does FM. I just cut the antenna exactly in half, cut off the rubber top, drilled out the fiberglass from the rubber top, then re-inserted the rubber top on the shorter antenna. Very easy mod, took maybe 45 mins. I read the following post where another forum member did a similar job, and got my inspiration there. I didnt cut mine all the way as he did, thats a matter of preference i suppose. There are pretty detailed instructions near the bottom of the first page.
