front plate problems

I just took the car out for the first time and I'm already getting hassled for not having a front plate on the 350. NYS is one of the states that requires front plates, sucks, but what can you do. Has anyone found a way to mount the front plate without drilling holes in the bumper? I have an 05 without the AMG kit.

thanks for the help!

I was going to reply with this http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...ont-plate.html but I guess I can't since you don't have the kit. Sorry can't help, maybe someone will chime in. I don't have the front plates either, I took it off looks much better, cops here doesn't really care.

Being a law abiding citizen (don't speed, or cuss in public) I have the plates front and rear. Virginia requires the front plate. I'm a big personalized plate fan so it helps to ease the pain when drilling holes in the front bumper. Didn't say I like it.

What you can do is mount L-brackets under the front nose of the bumper (where the bottom grille is). That way you don't see the holes and it's not as ugly as if you mount it on the nose.

No holes license plate bracket attachment

This gallery photo shows attachment (AMG bumper) with a combination of 3M Dual Lock and two screws thru the grille.

Here's one with an "L" bracket on a 2005 W211 E-class with a standard bumper. Y

The problem with the SLK bumper is that a straight L bracket won't work with the bumper shape.

Hopefully these pictures will spark your imagination.

I've used the following no holes method (see attached post), to me it was the easiest way to mount a plate without screws....When I was an Audi guy, we used to mount earth magnets behind the bumper, my low-tech approach was much easier to do.

So far I have had no issues after almsot a year. I do plan on replacing the suction cups in a few weeks, and I usually give the plate a little push before I drive.
