2005 SLK350 vs '06 or '07

I've been looking for a preowned SLK350. Most of what I'm finding are 2005s. However, I've heard that there are numerous improvements in the 2006 and 2007 versus the 2005. Anyone have more specifics?

I hope to be an owner soon but I want to get the right car - even if I have to spend more.

Thanks!

Other than an engine without "oil consumption" issues, I can't think of much. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I would pass on any "early production" 2005 SLK 350 because of the oil problem. Some where in the 2005 model year, they got it resolved. I've purchased a used 2006 SLK 350 and a newly acquired 2005 SLK 55. Both were in excellent shaped with low mileage and a HUGH savings over new. I've seen many used 2005 SLK 350s going for $39,000 and less on eBay. Model year refinements is not the issue, pricing is. Good luck in your search.

Thanks - Transmission & Wiring Updates Too?

Thanks.

I thought there were transmission and wiring updates too? Did MB also go to fiber optics and a digital Tele-aid?

2006 CLK350 Convertible
Very Few

I have a 2005 Launch Edition with 6000 miles on it and I have not consumed one drop of oil. When you check the facts....only a very few had any type of oil consumption problem. I see a few on EBay where a great priced 2005 is described as a MB Exchange with a new engine. It is pretty easy to check a VIN with the dealer and see if it was ever serviced for this problem. We might be blowing it out of proportion???? The 2005’s also had a recall on the computerized climate controls, but that doesn’t mean they are all junk….. Almost every vehicles first year has a few issues and they get worked out 

There isn't alot of problems in general, the SLK is a great buy, especially a used one. Most of the differences are with packages, colors been deleted, added, etc.. 2006 has better interiors but easy to get white scuff marks.

dash material different

I heard the dash material is different in 2006 vs 2005. Supposed to be easier to clean for 2006. As a 2005 owner, I'm supposed to use a microfiber cloth or whatever to clean the dash, so far I have no problem with cleaning. I use meguiar's wipes and it works ok, don't need to use the special microfiber cloth.

Late 2006 models IIRC correctly, when back the the traditional vinyl look I believe, I've seen pics but have not see it in person and it doesn't look as good. The old interior looks more elusive and more for an expensive car, although much harder to keep clean.

I too have a 05 Launch edition and NO problems, great car.

(Ok, so I hate the poor service at the dealership, that car is super!)
