GF buying 2005 slk350

Hey all,

I'm usually in the E55 or CLS forums, but I wanted to get familiarized with the slk community. My gf is picking up her slk today and I wanted to see what everyone has to say. My gf usually buys second hand cars for about a yr then sells it and gets another second hand car.

She is getting a pre-owned 2005 slk350 with AMG sport package, and fully loaded with options, with comfort package, trim package, lighting package, DVD navigation, heating package and premium package. It is diamond silver metallic with red interior. It has 38,000 miles.

What is a fair price? She's getting it for around 38k. I think its a lil high....what do you guys think?

Are there any issues with a 2005 slk350? Anything to look for? How's the 7-spd transmission? I'm going to test drive it one more time before she makes the purchase.

Will post pics once we get it....

Thanks in advance guys!

Do a search there have been many early 05's which had oil consumption problems. I would avoid VIN numbers which is less than "057000", those are the ones that could have a problem. If it's 38k out the door it's not bad. Check the tires, maintenance records, carfax report, brakes. I would also have a good mechanic thoroughly look at the car, it's worth the couple hundred.

As stated earlier, early 2005 models had oil consumption issues but with 38K miles, it's probably fixed, a bit high (price) for those miles, I've seen less than 30K miles for similiar price or less. Good luck, she'll enjoy it.

hey guys, thanks for the replies!

Good thing the VIN was not less than 057000.....

Either way I'll get it checked out for her. The carfax report was clean, and I test drove the crap out of it. The paint was pretty decent. It held up nicely.....Even though I dont like how its close to 40k miles, we bargained for a better deal guys! We bargained at got it down to 35k!

I'll post pics soon!

Regarding your question about the 7G - be careful. I think most people haven't had a problem from what I have read, but I know mine is not an isolated incident. I have had ongoing problems with my 7G-tronic transmission. Just be careful to check the gear changes for sudden jumps and losses of power, and clunking noises when the gears hold for too long. Apparently its an extremely difficult thing to fix - they have had my car for over 7 wks during the first year alone trying to fix this and a few other problems. Thats unacceptable to me but no one seems to have any idea how to fix the problems. Be careful to check it out reallllllly carefully. Good-luck!
