SLK/R171: smoke

hello all, I was on vacation for the past 2 months. After I came back, obviously, the battery was dead. So i replaced the battery with my spare one. While the car was running, i started to see a little smoke coming up from the right of the heat shield that is next to the positive terminal. When i looked, i could only see the headers. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
It's not uncommon for the battery in a SLK to drain when the vehicle sits for a while. No reason for the smoke, so keep an eye on it.

Could it be a slow oil leak? If there was a ground issue with the battery you would know the minute there was contact with the terminals. I would check for oil being a possibility. Good luck finding the problem, let us know what you find is the problem.
