Tall SLK Drivers?!

Hey guys - looks like I'm going to end up back stateside in a couple of months, and my RHD drive C won't be making the trip with me...

Was thinking about a new SLK350, and was wondering if anyone here was 6′2″ and wanted to tell me how comfortable they were in the car?

I've got a demo setup when I buzz over to Houston in June, so I guess I'll be able to answer the question myself, but can't wait! :-)

Also, any experience with European delivery? Figure since I'm over here anyway, and was planning on a special order anyway it might be entertaining....

I'm 6'2" and 235lbs and its plenty big enough in the Cockpit. In fact with the seat all the way back I can hardly reach the pedals. You will be fine!

That's one of the things that impressed me most about the SLK, how adjustable the seats really are. I have a long upper torso and most conventional sedans don't accomodate my height, much less a roadster. When I first sat in the SLK my head was hitting the roof and I smirked at the salesman as if to say, "Yeah, another toy sized car I can't wear." He then showed me the simple electric controls for lowering the seat. Wow, headroom to spare!

And like Mighty Joe, I can adjust my seat so my feet hardly make it to the pedals. Its amazing how much adjustability that SLK cockpit provides.

Well, there's one more "excuse" out of the way!! Thanks for the info - I've not been this excited about a new car in ages.

(and btw Mighty Joe, I got "pm blocked" on the other side of the street as a new user - saw a post you made regarding "girlie cars" and your size!)

I think the next problem is gonna come when I get to Houston - the salesguy's already "suggested" a drive in an '55!

Smile Caveat

There is no trouble fitting into the cockpit for tall drivers, but a) if you have a long torso relative to your legs you will not be able to adjust the steering wheel to see the upper display easily and the wind will pull off your at at over 100mph with the top down.

That's a caveat I can live with! Just called my salesguy, and he's trying to talk me into a 06 350 - ~ 30k less that what I was looking at for an 09, so I'm going to have to chew on that one a bit...

I would test drive an 06 & a 09 before deciding as quite a bit has changed in the 350. Engine, steering, electronics, etc. But 30K is a lot of money.

Yeah, the '06 has every option available with the exception of the iPod kit, AMG bodykit, and bluetooth. Was thinking that $30k would pay for a hell of a lot of 91 octane!

2002 C230 coupe , NOt THE AVATAR!!
remember... being tall driving an SLK and if the car flip over is not a funny thing

but it was REALLY fun when you drive over 130+ MPH in your SLK with top down and sticking your head out and let the wind force blow your head you could actually feel your hair are losing

damn it was fun....

Probably long since made your decision, esp if you test drove one, but I'll second the opinions (or third?) that a guy 6'0 to 6'3" could sit comfortably in the SLK's. I'm 6'1", 180 lbs, and I fit in with PLENTY of room to spare. Even if I had a little more girth I'd still be fine, and another inch or two of height wouldn't hurt me either.

Yeah, I did make my decision, and am the proud owner of a "new to me" '06 SLK350. I can't tell you what a great time I had - 1,300 miles in ~25 days! I'm now back in the UK for a bit, and I feel like I cheated on my C - and I can't wait for the next "stateside" shift!

The seats are comfortable, but took a lot more adjustment to get than way that the seats in the C. Being back, and on my daily commute, I really notice a huge difference in the two cars - I'm damned happy with the C as a commuter and the SLK as a "fun" run around. The mileage in the C really makes me smile as well, given that we are now a bit over $9.00USD a gallon for petrol over here - 25+ into the city rocks, and I just noticed that the "last since reset at ~1200 miles" is just over 24. Can't imagine I'll get anywhere close to that in the SLK

Wife really likes it as well, which is a plus, and damn if the car doesn't look a hell of a lot more impressive with her smiling from the passengers seat.

I just bought a 06 SLK280 for my fiance. I am 6'2 220lbs and it is the most uncomfortable thing in the world. I can barely get in or see once I am in it. After a 30 minute drive I was ready to walk home.
