I am seriously considering a CPO 2006 SLK350 with a manual transmission, Premium Package, AMG Sport Package, Entertainment Package with Navigation, Lighting Package, Comfort Package and heated seats (like I need those in Miami!).

The reason I am posting here (as well as in 2 other MB forums) is that I just went through 2 Volvos (S60R and S80 V8 Sport) I did not love --to say the least-- and I could have avoided this if I had previously gone to forums and inquired about the typical problems and quirks with these cars. While on the other side (already owning them), I offered potential buyers the advise I hoped someone had given me. Some thought of those problems as important and some did not care, but at least I did my part in offering what I thought was an unbiased opinion. I was hoping to get the same from this forum.

I plan to install a bluetooth and an iPod adapter right away, but I have already done my research with those and know of the options available. I am now more interested in knowing if there are any common issues with these cars that I should be aware of. Any common rattles? Items that wear off prematurely? Real world gas mileage that's way below the published numbers? Disappointing real time performance numbers? Mushy or quirky shifter? Top that jams easily? Leaks? Overly noisy ride? Ride too harsh for a daily driver (AMG, remember)? Subpar stereo even with the Harman Kardon unit? Etc...

By the way, 2 other cars I am considering are a 2007 BMW 335i coupe and a 2006 Cayman S, both manual.

Does it have to be manual?

I have a nice SLK55 that I'm about to sell for a great price.

That is indeed a great price, but it must be manual. I will never drive an automatic ever again.
