About the microphones: I very carefully opened the connectors and took the contacts out, and swapped the contacts to the existing connector as follow:
The green goes to the (2 on 1) blue wires and the black is just shield it does not connect. the other two red wires go to the brown and white.
And by the way, you don't need to take the central light off...
The antenna problem is to be solved tomorrow, it is a known problem and by the help of fellow Adamantium (in slkworld.com) it is solved: "You can't connect the aerial double fakra (white) the wrong way round. You need to open up the fakra connector and move the aerial wire to the other side. ie. to the side with the connector release tab on it.
I have told Frank this but he still seems to supply the cable with the wire in the wrong side. He did on the second one I ordered too."

Ok, I will share my experience of upgrading the 2004 audio 20 to the new Audio 20 (25?) NTG 2.5.
The questions I intend to discover are:
• Is it going to work on my 2004 R171? – As far as I learned so far it will need a cable adapter.
• Is my UHI Phone Cradle going to Work (option 386)?
• Is the Bluetooth going to work?
• Is my 6 cd changer going to Work? Is mp3 available on de CDC?
• Are there any more cables needed?
• Is it going to be ipod compatible?
• Are the color of the dashboard exactly the same?
I just bogth a audio 20 NTG 2.5 unit of ebay (280 euros) and post all the developments of this story as a go along.
For now I´m just waiting for the unit.
Hope this help!

Now I can answer these questions:
Is it going to work on my 2004 R171?
Yes, but it needs some adapters as the pinout is different, the antenna connector is different, you need also to connect to the Head Unit a Bluetooth antenna and the microphones.
Is my UHI Phone Cradle going to Work (option 386)?
Well as I learned so far, it still charges the phone and the phone connects via Bluetooth… so you can say it works as you have the same functions as before.
Is the Bluetooth going to work?
Yes!!! And it is perfect!
Is my 6 cd changer going to Work? Is mp3 available on de CDC?
Nope, there is no MOST (optical connector) so it is virtually impossible to connect it. There is a New audio 20 with CD Changer integrated in the HU.
Are there any more cables needed?
The cables needed are the following: NTG 1 to NTG 2.5 adaptor, antenna adaptor, Bluetooth antenna, microphone extension cable. (if you don´t have microphones you need to get 2). And the iPod kit for the NTG 2.5.
Is it going to be ipod compatible?
Testing, as far as I tested it works perfectly when the key is turned on, whiteout the key turned a strange thing aspens, the iPod starts to go mad between play and pause and no sound comes out. If you turn the car on everything is OK and works fine. (I´m going to investigate this problem if anyone can help information is welcome!)
Is the color of the dashboard exactly the same?
Yes a perfect match.

Can anyone help?
Do I need to do program the car in any way for the presence of the iPod kit?

I have a new audio 20 for sale (identical to mine), it came from a new 09 SLK that changed to Comand.
If anyone is interested please let me know.
The radio will work perfectly in the pre-facelift model, as described above.
Best Regards

Yes, you can control the ipod from the steering wheel buttons and it shows the titles of the songs in the cluster. (not the radio).
You need the radio+ipod kit (ntg 2.5) and a adapter (from ntg 1 or 2 to ntg 2.5). As described in my tread.
