07 SLK 350 Ticking After Driving
Hello All,
Normally I find all the answers I need by searching here and other sites; however, I haven't found what I need so here goes my first post.
My wife just bought an 07 SLK 350 with the sports package, 46k miles. We noticed after she comes home, no matter how long the trip was, and turns the car off we here a loud ticking noise.
It's almost like metal cooling and making this ticking almost cracking sound. It's steady and last for about 30 minutes. I have owned 5 total Mercedes and currently have an ML550 and have never heard the sound before. Even in the SLK55 we owned.
Appreciate any clues. THX

Ticking noise
Just spotted this post. I have an SLK 55 and it also ticks, even more so if she has been pushed a while on the way home. A combination of differential cooling rates of various parts I think. Mainly exhaust components and brakes next. As there are mixed metal components used throughout the construction I think they have differing coefficients of expansion and contraction tehrefore cool at different rates and hance the ticking.

Bobster, your assessment is 100% accurate... as confirmed by my service dept. in Tampa. I guess it's a more common issue than I previously assumed.
