MB should recall the 722.9 transmission for all 2005-2007 model years..
Hey all, My 2006 SLK 350, 66,000 miles....transmission started shifting into wrong gears at wrong times 2 days ago without warning or any light on the dash...Drove it to dealer - Conductor plate/speed sensor needs to be replaced. $1600 estimate.
Seems like, I am not alone. The forums are riddled with this episodes of failing conductor plates.
All 2005-2006 and 2007 C, E, M, SLK, S, SL CLK and 2007 GL fitted with the new 7G tronic transmissions (722.9) are experiencing this same consistent premature failure.
Just started a conversation with MBUSA in the hope of getting good will for this job. Why are they not recalling this transmission.
I have a 2000 ML320 as my 2nd ride with the (722.5) 5g tronic transmission that just rolled 200,000 miles with ZERO power train issues so far in 15 years.

I'm interested in a used W171 SLK - do you know if Mercedes fixed / upgraded the transmission after 2007? Just limited to '05-'07? Thanks

I believe the 2008-2011 are less prone to this problem, but people on the M, C, E and S class (which uses the same 7G-tronic transmission as the SLK) forums are certainly reporting this very same problem at higher miles on the 2008-2011 model years as well.
I am guessing, because, SLKs are gnerally driven less, the 2008-2011 SLK problems could surface later down the road.
Post 2012, the next generation to 9G-tronic transmission was introduced...hope that helps!
