My srs light is coming on and off over the last couple of days. To test the seat belts, I suddenly breaked and both belts worked fine. If there is a problem with the seat belt receptacle the part cost is $500, need some advise on next steps.

The first step is get the car scanned. That will determine what is faulty-----Then you can make a decision to fix or have someone else repair!!

Took your advice and ran the codes, the drivers side seat belt receptor is the culprit. Quoted $467 to replace. Fair deal?

"Fair deal"-------very subjective, however now you know for sure what is faulty. And again you are left with a simple decision---fix or don't fix. That's your decison not mine!!

Mine failed on the 2006 SLK 2 years ago...I was under extended warranty plan, so they took care of it with a $100 deductible..
