SLK/R171: No Yellow?
I have a yellow SLK
I can not take it again! I bought a C36 and MB came out with the C43 six month later!
COLOUR OR COLOR (US): I am getting the silver as well; same as my C36; Vancouver weather - no choice! But as for the interior, I have no clue! Black is very easy to care for but does not match the SLK 55 image! Blue/Black and Black/blue is also unexciting/dull! I like the red thing but which one? Solid red? Red/black? Black/Red? In any case the red colour is not very easy to keep clean!
I am first on the list for a SLK 55 as well. But I don't if that is a good thing. Because I am afraid MB will put their new 410 bhp 5.5L V8 in the SLK within a year or so!

When I got an SLK during its first-year release in 1997, it had over 30 different problems over my 4-year lease period (no joke!). It was in the MB shop so often that the MB dealership people didn't bother asking for my ID when I went to pick up my car from its seemingly "weekly" dealership "visits." (sigh)
After that bad 4-year experience, I ended up buying a 2002 SLK320 in November 2001 after MB made me an offer I couldn't refuse to make up for all the crap I dealt with in my first SLK -- and my 2nd/current SLK has been a totally opposite experience, really great car, no problems

I understand your concern -- that's partially why I have put myself on a wait list for the 2007 SLK55 AMG when it's released in the Fall of 2006 with the new more powerful v-8 with 400 horsepower (an online article I read specifically about the new V-8 engine states that the 400hp v-8 is supposed to be released around the Summer or Fall of 2006). Besides the engine concern, I also would prefer to NOT have a first-year model of the new SLK since Mercedes doesn't exactly have a great track record with reliability in first-year models.

I had and I still have a lot of problems with my C36 as well and it is very very expensive to fix the problems! I have an Acura MDX and I had a Lexus SC400 as well. Both are/were riduculously reliable and very very cheap to maintain. They have/had almost no problem! I don't understand why MB is well below industry average when it comes to dependability ( J.D. Power and Associates 2003 VDS)>
The problem I have with waiting is "model change". The new SLK came out this year, 2004. MB will most likely change this model by 2009. Therefore if I buy it in 2007, I only have two years to really enjoy it! But I know that's the name of the game!

"CLS will be available in the United States in early 2005, with the familiar three-valve-per-cylinder 24-valve 306-hp 5.0-liter V8 in the CLS500. About 18 months after CLS goes on sale, two new 32-valve V8 engines will join the lineup: a 350-hp 4.6-liter and a 400-hp 5.5-liter. When they arrive, the existing 5.0-liter V8 will be phased out of production."

Teufel, here is a blurb about the new 400hp V-8 engine that will eventually be in the SLK55 AMG sometime in the Summer or Fall of 2006 (with a link to the full article below it):

Things used to be so easy! Just buy any car and you don't have to worry about any changes until the next eight years!
