2007 SLK280 limp mode, FIXED???

Hello all,

I got this problem 2 weeks ago.
I noticed a big thumpt when I put the car in reverse to back out, and then another big thumpt when putting in drive to go forward.
Driving forward, the car doesn't seem to shift anymore. RPM just goes to 3k, 4k... etc... no shifting.

I have a cheap ODB2 scanner, which give me code 0717 and 0717p, that's it. I cleared it and problem still persists.
So I got myself a more expensive and specialized OBD2 scanner (Icarsoft MBII).
And I retrieved ollowing codes: 0717,0718, 2766, 2768.

After reading the codes I cleared them, that's it... just cleared them.

Funny thing happened, my limp mode is NO MORE. It seems that my car is fixed. I took it for a ride, after 10 minutes, "the limp" did not come back.

I don't want to believe that I had "FIXED" my car that easily. I am sure something had went wrong and most likely to come back again at later time.

Can someone give me some ideas?

You may have the famous "R171 Transmission Valve body" problem...the transimission valve body is a known problem especially on the 2005-2007 SLKs..until MB redesigned the conductor plate on the valve body. A malfunctioning valve body does not throw any meaningful error codes....but randomly throws the car in to limp mode.

If it is the valve body, nobody is authorized to replace it..MB only allows a dealer to perform this repair..I believe, they replace the conductor plate with the newer 2008 onward designed one & do a rebuild of the valve body. It is a $1500-$2000 repair.

It took me 3 days of driving to realize that there was some persistent problem in the car..since it would randomly shift in to limp mode. I even complained to NHSTA to do a recall..this is dangerous..the car decides to lock into 35mph suddently without warning at freeway speeds...

The problem is known to surface between 60,000-90,000 miles on most 2005-207 SLKs,,
