The engine in the SLK200 Kompressor

is the engine in the SLK200 Kompressor the same engine used in the USA market C230 sport sedans and coupes?? Or is it different?? because it does have 26 less horsepower and 22 less lb-ft of torque than the 1.8 liter(USA)...but why would Mercedes build two different engines that are so close in the design and size??thanks!(just curious)

my thoughts

maybe they will cancel the 1.8 us spec. or maybe another market...

example 350 engine SL , and SLK350 engine isnt the same,,,, SLK engine spec is higher .... (sounds weird but true)

C-Class
in germany we offer 4 versions of the 1.8liter 4cylinder:

the 180k, 200k, 200cgi and 230k

all engines are almost the same, but have different ECU´s and loading pressure, so there are the different horsepower and torque.
at least the 200 CGI has gasoline direct-injection, but this system is not so popular and only avalible on c-class and CLK.

the SL350 has the old V6, with 3,7liters and 3valves.

the SLK350 uses the brand-new engine with 4valves and some other nice features to produce 272hp.

US vs EURO

US (& Canada) Spec. = 268 HP
Eurpean Spec. = 272 HP

I believe that it's the result of better fuel in Europe resulting in more advanced timing and more HP.
