SLK350 vs. BMW

Am I missing something or is the SLK350 (non-AMG) better looking, faster, and cheaper than the M3 convertible, and better looking, much faster, and just a little more expensive than the Z4?

How does BMW compete with this? Haven't seen anything about a Z5. I've only seen spy photos of the new 3 series sedan. I am assuming that they'll make an M version of the E90 coupe/convertible.

Z5? do you want us to be blind? we are already fedup (bmw owners too) from seeing the z4 , it just hurt the eyes from being plain ugly!

you cant really compare M3 with SLK 350... personally I would get an M3 (stronger and more practical , but SLK 55 , is no question about it ....

As a BMW owner I can say that I would much prefer to be seen in a SLK than Z4 but M3 is different though. Would be nice to see some performance figures of SLK 55 vs M3 cabriolet at some point.

I guess the Z4 is not real well liked, even by BMW owners?

I think the posted 0-60 numbers on the websites show the SLK350 about equal to the M3 convertible. Both are about 5.4 sec. So the SLK55 I imagine would be a good deal faster than the M3.

The engineering work done on the Z4 chassis is quite nice- 50:50 weight distribution and weighs almost 200 kilos lighter than than the SLK. But the Z4's looks is what BMW owners like myself have trouble accepting

Well, I've put myself on the waiting list for the SLK 350 so counting down to the delivery date!

but doesnt the M3 have more low end torque and horsepower..it feels as though it jus dying to go fast and doesnt like to stop at all!

Will the SLK350 have anything close to the pure enjoyment i got from the M3?

If yes then i wouldn't mind the SLK just because i get a hard top convertible
and longer model life...But if the performance is alot more boring and less responsive then the M3 then i will really regret my purchase...

cross my fingers...seems like its too late to change my order...

Once again, the m3 will be more fun to drive than 350

Did your order say non refundable on it? If not, you should be able to get a full refund of your deposit unless there's a stated restocking fee especially if the car hasn't been built yet. The slk350 is a lot smoother than an m3 with better build quality, but if you're looking for the perception of sportiness with a bit more quickness get a 6 speed m3 not the smg.

you *think* ?! Dude, you signed a contract without reading it ? Or re-reading it this past week since you were considering cancelling it ??!?!

hm....

Was this a full car purchase contract ? What did it look like ? Did it have all the pricing (if the final price wasn't availalbe, it's also an illegal contract, UNLESS it states specifically that this is a binding, non-cancel 'fee' - that again would be highly unethical of the dealer - but possible....

The SLK350 (non-amg) is not faster than the M3 convertible, and it's "looks" are relative.

SLK 350 Is Almost as Fast as BMW M3

The SLK 350 has a 3.5 V6, 268 horsepower and goes from 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds, manually.

The BMW M3 has a 3.2 V6, 333 horsepower and goes from 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds, manually.

Now obviously the M3 is faster and has 65 more horsepower, but the SLK is not even a "upgraded racing sports car." The SLK 55 AMG does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds too, but having the SLK 350 at 5.4 is very good for a non "AMG"(M-Benz) or "Motorsports" Car.(BMW)

In my opinion, the SLK 350 and 55 AMG look better than the BMW M3. BMW cars look like any other car to me now. Look from the side of a 3,5, or 7 series and tell me what styling cues are there. For example, the X series of BMW SUV looks like the Lexus almost. The Audi A4 looks almost like the BMW 5 or 7 series. Also, BMW's interior and buttons inside are really bad. When you look at a M-Benz interior, it is really nice. But the inside of a BMW is nothing. Mercedes Benz has always been known to make heads turn. There are no cars out there that look like Mercedes and that is why they are more expensive.

A BMW M3 in my area, beginning of the 2004 year, was 50,000 to 53,000. But there is always the dealers price. Every BMW was sold for over 63,000 U.S. dollars. That is a rip off because you are paying over $10,000 more than the standard price and you haven't even put any options or packages on. Not even aftermarket stuff like chrome wheels.

Now I can get a SLK 55 AMG V-8, 4.8 seconds from 0-60, a hard top that folds into the trunk, loud sounds system(I turned on the radio and the speakers were skaing the car), and a really damn nice color to go with it.

Indeed, it's unless SLK won't be sold below invoice soon (it happend to E class, why not for SLK?) Anyway, M3 has important feature for me, two extra seats for my two babies.
