Thumbs up Trunk Space - Suitcase

For those of you wondering about what suitcase DOES fit, I have spent the last couple of days with a few trips to my dealer in preparation for my European delivery 10/1/04...needless to say, I need to know what luggage to take for two weeks of driving around Germany and France. Here is the results:

> My Samsonite roll-aboard was about an inch and a half too long to fit pointed to the front and the trunk is not wide enough for two across if it is put left to right.

> I found an American Tourister roll-aboard that just barely fits in, so that two can be used side by side, leaving a little room for smaller things and some room on top under the roof slider. This suitcase is only $39.42 at our most common discount store (online or in the store) and comes in blue or red.

Here is the description from the web site:
"The model is a American Tourister Meridian IV Expandable 21-inch Upright Carry-On
American Touister travel gear is performance tested at fully loaded capacity, using stringent quality control standards. The Meridian IV upright carry-on bag has gone through rigorous tests of strength, durability and dependability. A plus for frequent travelers and vacationers: This bag expands up to 22 percent for greater capacity. 21-inch, blue color.
Made of durable 1200-denier polyester fabric in blue
Dimensions: 14"L x 7"W x 21"H
Expands up to 22 percent for added capacity
Push-button locking handle
Bottom-lift handle
In-line skate wheels
Sturdy steel frame with corner proctection
2 large front pockets, 1 interior mesh pocket
Removable add-a-bag strap
Interior cross-straps

*** I might add that to fit it I placed it with the wheels up and toward the front...just slid in snug fit.

Well it's good to know what size of suitcase will fit for the New SLK. How about What size of golf bag it will fit? I am still trying to find out. It seems that no one here knows wheather it will fit a golf bag or not!

A previous post showed measured usable space as ~43" wide by ~22" deep and ~13.5" high with the top down cover in place.

You may want to take your clubs down to the dealer...

From what I understand, if you have ordered the nav system and are getting European delivery, you can ask to borrow a DVD while in Europe.

Right, but an article in the last MB magazine states that SLK excluded. Strange.

The discount for European delivery is excluded currently from the program, but if you find a dealer with a European delivery specialist, you may be able to arrange one, just not with the 7% normal discount due to popularity.

I leave September 29th to pick up mine October 1st (I arranged it at the beginning of June).

Euro Nav DVD

Yes, you can get a Nav DVD for Eurorpe with the SLK if you have ordered the Nav option. Worked great for us.
