SLK Launch Edition - some questions

Hello,

I am in the market for a SLK350 and I was able to test drive a SLK350 lauch edition with manual transmission and heating package

Based on what I can tell, the lauch edition package includes premium pkg, comfort pkg, sport suspension and some items from AMG pkg (not sure about last one though).

Does someone know exactly what the Launch Edition pkg contains (as it relates to the options that you usually get).

What do you guys think of the L.E.?

Would I be making a mistake getting the manual tranny (I have heard a lot of good things regarding the 7G tranny) and based on buyer profile, I am doubtful that a SLK with manual tranny will be such a hot cake when it is time to resale. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Paul.

Paul....What you describe on the L.E. is very similar to what I saw when I drove a 6spd.
The exterior color is nice but I didn't like the interior color combo at all.
The SLK 350 is being touted by car enthusiasts as a true sports car and therefore anything but a 6spd. would be a mistake especially when considering resale.

As far as I can tell, the launch edition gets you a couple of things you can't get otherwise:
1) The pewter exterior
2) A front skirt
3) Tabacco leather
4) The chrome grill insert (which you could add to any slk)
5) Silver exterior mirrors (which you could add to any slk)

So you have to decide if those items justify the premium you pay. IMO the color is a personal preference and I'll bet pewter will be added to the roster next year, the front skirt looks a little weird from the side because there are no side skirts, The tabacco leather is o.k. but it seems like the wood trim would go better than the silver, and the chrome grill looks nice but you can buy that for about $165.00 US. Finally, the silver mirrors look kind of cheap and stuck on IMO.

Just my two cents on it.

I too had a hard time deciding, particularly since the dealer had none nor any info but found it on the web. Not sure the address now but I did a search and actually found it in one of the MBUSA links... but could not find it going into MBZ's site.

We have had it a month and love it, color, leather, details, etc are super and coupled with the fact only 1000 were made PLUS MBZ is contributing $1,000,000 to cancer research makes the "cake" even better to take!

Talking

I found the site:

Nice car, the seat color in these photos show it to be darker than what we got (might just be how it came out on the computer) but all else is correct.

LOVE this car !!

Yeah, I think those silver mirror guards are pretty horrible, too. But I did notice that they are available after the fact from the dealership when I picked up my ML from service the other day. Not sure why anyone would want them, but to each his own. The LE also comes with different rims that kind of remind me of the OLD AMG rims. The standard ones look better, IMO.

I dunno... just don't think it's worth the money. I've got $53k in mine, so the money isn't a big deal, but the extras just don't justify it.

And yeah, I'm thrilled with the six speed. The 7G feels faster, but that's pretty common. If you don't like the short throw shifter, though, you might not be happy with it. Some love it, some hate it.

trading SLK350 for SLK350

We purchased a Launch Edition in October. My wife prefers light color interiors so we ordered Orion Blue with Ash leather. We are to pick-up the car on Saturday Feb 12 2005. We love the car obviously or we wouldn't have ordered a new one. If you are interested I'll give you the dealer info if you contact me at flaslk@earthlink.net. We live in Fla. The car will have approx 3800 miles on it. It was properly serviced at 1500 miles.
