2006 Model Release

I'm going to be ordering a 171 in January and I'm wondering if anyone knows when the 2006 model will be released? Seeing people on this list with 5-6 month waits (Australia), it seems like an order now would be for the 2006 model (at least in some countries).

I'm in Colorado. What is the delivery time now for an ordered vehicle in the U.S.?

You are really stupid. They are going to be the exact same thing, no different. The 2006 model is going to arrive in the showroom of dealerships in September 2005. The 2007 model is going to arrive in September 2006. The 2008 model is going to arrive September 2007. AND SO ON. I am 17 years old and I know when the new cars come out. Everyone knows that. It is not going to be 5 months wait if you order it in january. It will take 8 to 9 months. And if you are in australia, that will take even longer, maybe twice as long as the wait. They haven't even finished building the 2005 models. Just get one right now. There is no difference. Here is some advice, don't tell anybody you are waiting for the 2006 model. Don't even mention you are getting a benz.

The following morel year (MY - eg MY06 )cars usually get launched in the fall - Initial model years are an exception as you may have noticed.

Anyone heard about a twin-cam V8 for 2006 models? I wonder if this will be the next engine for the SLK55.

It will.
DOHC 32Valve V8 based on the same technology that went into the 350 engine.

I'm sure it won't be in 06 but probably 08 at best. Remember MB R&D must produce the engine and prove it before AMG will touch it. It would likely be a 4.7L DOHC at 360 plus HP (maybe 400 HP) following the current 3.5L DOHC design. Would it still be called a SLK 55 or a SLK 47?

This engine has been around for quite a while already. It will be debuting with the W221 as one of the many engines in the 06 models.

You'll probably be able to order your car in several months. Before bought my '05 SL600, a dealer suggested that I wait for a couple of months and order an '06. The benefits, of course, are you get your car, your way and no one has driven but you. You may also avoid the potential bugs found in many new models. The dealer explained that I'd probably receive my car in July '05. Fortunately, I found the perfect '05 with every option. Seems to me it's worth the wait if you're in no rush.
