SLK 350 First Service

When are all you folks planning to get your first service, ie: oil change done on your SLK 350? I've heard a tremendous amount of discussion on when it should be done, some say as soon as you get the car because of metal shavings coming from the engine and some say to wait until the recommended MB service interval. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I plan to get my first oil change between 2,000 and 3,000 miles.

The first recommended service did not include an oil change, but was more of a "check up" between 1K and 3K...I had mine at 2700 miles (after the 1800 in Europe and some settling in mileage here). I now have just under 6K...

I've always changed oil & fiilter at 3K intervals in every car I've owned...plan the same with the 350.

My advice is that nobody on this board (including me) knows more about your car than the engineers who designed it. Go with the recommended service intervals unless you use your car in an usual way (e.g. many track days).

Best advice. Having owned the 1st gen SLK320, and having followed only the recommended services with no problems, I intend to do the same with the new SLK350: wait for the service indicator and get it done then!
