2012 SLK AMG launch date
OK, we now know when the 350 will hit the show rooms and we know that the AMG version, which is the one I'm interested in, will be powered by the new 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 with 422-428 HP (reports vary).
My question: Does anyone have any RELIABLE info about the launch date for the AMG? Any MB insiders out there with at least an educated guess?

I read it's going to be released at Frankfurt this September, maybe we'll see it in US next summer as it's kind pointless to bring it right before the winter. Considering that SLK250 is not even out in US yet we might have to wait till 2013 for AMG. It's such low volume car that nobody at MB prolly cares when it comes out.

Just ask yourself, which 70k car would I buy? I'm sure SLK55 AMG would not be the only car on the list. C and E 63 come with 4 doors and more power for the same or lower price. Add to that Cayman/Boxster S, M3, used 911, used SL63 AMG.

As for the logic of why someone would pay $70k for a sports car - there are a zillion reasons (one being many people don't like buying other people's used cars - they have the disposbale income to buy new cars).My SLK55 was $73k out the door - I didn't want a C55 (it was slower, did not handle as well, and the interior was not as nice).
I just drove the new AMG SLK55 yesterday & I can tell you - it's cetainly an upgrade over the R171 in terms of power & comfort. If I was in the market again, I'd certainly give it a serious look. They will be on sale here in the US in March.
