Past and present
Earlier this evening, I traded my 2009 SLK55 in on a new 2013 SLK55. This was totally unexpected (by me), as I had been delighted to my old car. However, as sometimes happens, I took my 2009 "cutie" to the dealer for an "A" service and, while waiting, took a stroll into the sales lobby.
There, on the showroom floor, was this gorgeous metallic diamond white 2013 SLK55 with virtually every option available (except the performance package) installed. I fell for it hook, line and sinker. After counting the pennies in my piggy bank this morning, I found I had just enough (literally -- after purchase, only $45 was left) and so back I went to the dealership, took it for a spin and rationalized how this new beauty was something I sorely needed.
My 2009 car had the performance package, and, while I loved the three piece wheels and appreciated -- in concept -- the limited slip differential, the harsher ride had begun to wear on my 66 year old body. My new SLK55 rides much more smoothly, has a far better sound system, obviously has better electronic goodies and extras like the incredibly cool Magic Sky roof, and most of all has a Designo interior of porcelain white leather and ebony piano finish wood, with red LED pinstripe lighting -- wow!
So, in short, I am a happy new owner and looking forward to exploring all of the car's capabilities over the next few days.

Adding some pictures
I finally got a chance to take some pictures. It is interesting how light impacts the color. The paint is metallic Diamond White, and the interior is the Designo Piano Black with porcelain white leather. In halogen light, the paint is bright white, while in fluorescent the white becomes a creamy pearlescent.

I ordered from and used tiles from Racedeck.com. You can design your own mix-and-match colors and types. The tiles interlock together as you lay them down. My garage floor looks as good today as the day I installed the tiles several years ago.
