R172 SLK250
Hydraulic Brake Unit and RS Control Unit Numbers

Dear MB World Members:

I have converted a 2012 SLK200 (VIN# WDD1724482F044505) from manual to automatic using all parts from my damaged 2013 SLK250 (VIN# WDD1724472F075695) - except for the Brake Hydraulic Unit and the RS Control Unit (ESP) as shown below:

The SLK250 brake unit and control unit (automatic) were damaged in the accident; so I retained the ones form the (manual) SLK200. The entire wiring loom and ECU's have been brought over from the donor car. The OEM part numbers from the EPC for the SLK250 are:
  1. Hydraulic Unit - A172 431 44 12 (672 & 697) - Code: 803/804/805 (mine is the 804). This is the same number for both cars.
  2. RS Control Unit - A172 900 84 03 (672) - Code: 803/804/805/213+803/213+804 & 213+805). This is a different number for both cars.
RS Unit - SLK250

The OEM EPC part numbers - SLK250

RS Unit - SLK200

The OEM EPC part numbers - SLK200 - NOTE the many part numbers

The SLK250 Data Card on the EPC confirms that it has option 213 - Speed-Sensitive Power Steering/Vario Steering + 803/804/805 (not sure what these numbers represent, but guess it may be the year manufactured?). So, to retain the correct part, I have searched for a replacement with the A172 900 84 03 number to no avail. All internet searches by that number return a standard A172 901 41 00 everywhere I look. Even the one retained in the SLK200 has that number see below; but the EPC says different, so can anyone tell me what the story is here?

This is the OEM part still in the SLK200.
So, what I am seeking advice about is:
  1. Although both wiring connectors to the RS Control unit have the same pins, the SLK250 has additional wires. Does this mean it still works just according to the pins per the specificated delivery build?
Same amount of pins on each connector.
  1. Can I use the existing unit?
  2. Why has the part got a universal number that is different from the EPC - are these all the same units?
  3. Has this got anything to do with superseded part numbers?
This is becoming a frustrating exercise and I would appreciate any assistance that any member, particularly a parts interpreter could provide.

Thank you,

James.
