///AMG SLK and the 3.7L
A supercharged 3.7L V6 would be sweet. RENNtech's 3.8L conversion for the SLK32 gets around 440hp, so the 3.7 should easily make it to 400hp. If MB makes room for some wider tires on the R171, it should end up quicker than the SL55 and E55. Now, if only they can keep from making it ugly.
I am not allowed to write more detail about the upcoming engine but I can refer to a German car magazine that wrote: The SLK R171 AMG will have a V8 engine without supercharger.
So now I have to sneak into MB HQ and do some covert ops?

Just hope it doesn't have SLR nose, although article says " the SLK adopts the SLR's contoured bonnet" and it sure looks from the photos it might....

Just announced that the 2004 (april) launch of SLK will be with the supercharged 3.7 litre engine and around 380 bhp.
With an extra 50 litres of boot space thanks to better roof design.

Correct is that the R171 is planned to be presented at Geneva in March 2004 and that the new roof folding mechanism will offer additional trunk space.

Wrong information, there won't be a supercharged 3.7 litre engine for the AMG.

So, Tim, knowing that, what engine is AMG using...

Tim won't tell and neither will I. But I really love AMG's decision and am happy that it's not going to be a 3.7l V6 Kompressor.

I hope MB goes back to using 4 valve engines, these 3 valve engine don't scale as well as the 4 valve.

looking at this is dicussion one thing is pretty clear.....nothing is known public at this time....
Wether we argue on 3,7l Kompressor or 5,5l V8 without, AMG will decide what they think is best for the car. Since I look at AMG and their model for few years now I am pretty confident the will take the right decision, especially since we all can see those excellent cars in the last 18 months like E55, SL55.
So my final guess is, that they will upgrade the performance of the existing SLK to a level around 400hp, most likely with an non-supercharged V8 (like the CLK) or with a V6-turbo (like started with the CL65). But if even they do with an R5 Biturbo it will be a great car.......won´t it
