New and confused

I have heard that SLK AMG 2004 will have the same engine as today´s CLK AMG. BUT that the SLK AMG year 2005 will have a new V8 outputting 370-375 hp. Is it so?? If so MB must be crazy.
Does anybody know?

2004 SLK 32 AMG is still the 349hp 3.2L V6.
2005 SLK 55 AMG (R171) will be using the CLK55 V8 motor, rumored to be in the 375hp to 400hp range.

Crazy

Dear friend,

I must say that this is nuts!!!! How can MB just after one year put a new motor in the SLK AMG??? Do you know the answer?
I must now postpone my leas for one year. Who will buy SLK AMG next year? Why can´t AMG go the way BMW does? BMW takes their time before they launch a new M car. BMW does not just put a stronger engine in their M cars, as far as I understand it can almost be a new car, while it seems that AMG just puts a stronger engine inside the standard car and then tightens some screws. I am very angry with MB and I do´nt believe I am the only one.
It seems nowadays that AMG puts out a new engine every sixth month. Do¨´t they understand that they make people frustrated to say the least. Who is behind this mad policy? I can´t see any comprehensive pattern. I am so frustrated.
For God´s sake MB wait til 2005 before you launch SLK AMG!

BMW had so many problems with the launch of the current M3 it had to be pushed back 6 months. If that's what you want MB and AMG to do, they'ed be out of business before you know it.

Really the E55 N/A motor has been used from 1999 till present.
Also the SLK32 has been out for more then one year, 2002, 2003, 2004(looks likes a 3 year run).
I can´t see any comprehensive pattern. I am so frustrated.

2002-2004 SLK 32 AMG, 3 years on the R170 platform. The 2005 sits on the new R171 platform, so a new motor isn't that big of a deal.

Someone that prefers the R170 bodystyle and lower price.

That's just marketing strategy... creates a higher demand. By releasing a new model with the top AMG model, it's rewarding the owners (we don't have to wait). Mercedes used to do the same thing... took a while with the SLK 32 AMG in the R170 bodystyle... I went from SLK 230, then to SLK 320, then to SLK 32 AMG. Talk about a waste of money (ate 3 depreciation periods!). I would have prefered to step into a SLK 32 AMG back in 1998, would've saved me a crapload of $.

BMW puts a stronger motor, better suspension, bigger brakes to make an M car. AMG does the exact same thing, so I don't see your point.

The "AMG" motors.

5.4L V8 349-367hp, E55, S55, CL55, ML55, 1998-2005
5.4L V8 S/C 369hp-496hp, E55, S55, CL55, SL55 2003-2004
3.2L V6 S/C 349hp C32, SLK32 2002-2004

How's that a new motor every 6 months? In fact, the R171 SLK is using the old 5.4L V8, same goes for the 2005 C55.
