SLK 55 in Sydney Australia - first driving experience.

Its lighter than the SL55, CLK55 and C55 but the power is nothing to laugh at.

I was in the car as it was driven on street laps at the unofficial street circuit that everyone loves to use. Late last year it claimed a Ferrari 360 that span out of control into several cars.

Feeling ......

Sound is incredible, speed and acceleration are probably the fastest thing I have sat in to date. (I have refused several drives in SL65 because the drivers were legally insane)

This was the factory press car with ALL of the options fitted.

The driver was the owner of several AMG cars and he was amazed at the speed. Some time later tonight I should age about 10 years when the skin on my face pops back into position and the laugh lines return.

Take off must be more impressive than the SLK32, because the 32 needs a little time to build up pressure. Can't wait to try it.

It was like letting a really angry tiger out of the cage. I think that the quoted

0-100 km/h = 5.2 seconds,

it must have spent 5.1 seconds trying to grip the road. The engine tone is probably the most desireable part of this car.

By the way ..... the quad exhuast is incredibly loud, I could hear the sound reverberating off the buildings as we were landing. People who think there is some weird reason why CLK55 doesnt have quad exhuast need to realise IT'S LOUD.

I was quite certain that it was lower than 5 seconds just from sitting in the car. I didnt want to be contrary to the person that was driving and telling me all these things.

In all honesty I find it hard to read the speedometer when the engine is going that hard and the road less than perfect. I think the brakes came on at around 6 seconds and by then the car was already doing more than it should be doing.

2005 SLK55 AMG
April Motor Trend has Porsche Boxster S and SLK55AMG compare.

They state they repeatedly got 4.5sec 0-60mph, despite MB's rating of 4.9.

You know that scene in "The Fast and The Furious" where he is driving and the whole road ahead is just a wobbly blur. I think it was something like that.

Before this my navel was an 'outy, now its 'inny. :p
