On torture
So I ordered an SLK55 about 2 weeks ago, knowing full well that I have no chance of seeing it before, say, August. Maybe even September. But hey, I'm a grown man (or so I tell myself), it's just a car, I've bought them before. I can wait patiently like a normal adult.
Yeah. No. Turns out I'm more like a normal 5-year-old boy in the months before Christmas during a year in which I've been EXCEPTIONALLY good, and fully expect my just rewards of prime loot.
August?! What is that, like three years from now?!
I thought reading forums like this one would help alleviate the pain, and make the waiting more bearable.
Wrong again! This is sheer torture. I look at the pictures, and they just make me want want WANT WANT WANT NOW NOW NOWNOWNOW. Now. Please?
And yes, I've watched the "Anticipation" video enough times to wear a groove on my hard drive. Doesn't help. Makes it worse. Thanks for NOTHIN'!

Mine being built this week
Mine's being built this week. Looking at end of July, early August delivery. I've been going through the same as you. I feel like a five year old who wants his toy nowwww !

Placed my order last week and I'm 3rd in line at my local dealer.
I am kicking myself for not just putting the deposit down last month when I first started looking.
To make it worse, every SLK320, 350, and 55 I see makes me pine even more.

same here.....i ordered a month ago...and it 's going to start making in july.....it's talking about the delivery in sep.
i counted every day and day .......it's 108days to go ....but it feels like 3 years time talking.........

How would you like to go through this twice?
We decided to buy the 55 the first of March. Luckily, the dealer was able to trade an SL55 he had in his showroom to another dealer for an SLK55 just being built. One long month to wait.
What excitement when I heard it was here! The next day it was hauled to the dealer because it failed in safe mode in park. Stability module failure. You may have followed my posts explaining this.
After six weeks of the dealer trying to fix the car and giving it to me twice, only to have this happen within 20 miles of driving again, MBUSA threw in the towel, thankfully, and offered a trade-out for a new 2006.
The car is currently being built and should be here mid to late July. Patience is not one of my virtues, so this has been an agonizing experience. But, I am pleased with the deal resulting from the trade-out and the response of the dealer and MBUSA.
CAN"T WAIT UNTILL IT GETS HERE.

Good luck to you, sweetie, on the waiting. I ordered mine over two months ago. For an '06 model, I have the first build date of end of June with delivery likely in Aug or Sep. Feel the same pain, however. I'm a grown woman waiting on two MB cars, the SLK 55 AMG and the new ML 500.

I have been trying to sublimate my excitement after the frenetic initial month or so post-ordering but it has been an ordeal.
Never will I be known as a patient man and this has been a supreme test of my desire for instant gratification -- I ordered in early March and my cherished one is finally being built now with an anticipated delivery date during the end of July or (heaven forfend) the beginning of August.
The time is nigh and the only way to make this wait tolerable is by avoiding thoughts of the car altogether.... then I see a R171 drive by on the road with its clamshell down and I proceed to go nuts again.
A toast to all of you who are similarily awaiting the delivery of your objet d'amour... may the forthcoming experience exceed all our fevered expectations and reward our patience many times over.

I'm also waiting...
After some consideration, I choose the 55 against a 987S. I owned a 986 for 5 years, so I figured out that it was time for a change! It is a very exciting car, and although I did test drives of both models, I think that the 55 will need a longer period to really appreciate the driving dynamics for that particular model. 
I have till Monday to finalise my spec, the build slot is in August, with delivery on the 1st week of September. Excellent salesman Mr. Spark, in Turlenstrasse, Stuttgart
A real pleasure working with him.
By the way, I read some mentions to a video, "Anticipation". What is that?

As a reference, my build date was May 10th. Car is sitting at VPC right now and my dealer just informed me that I should see it sometime next week.

Thanks SLK55NEWB, as convinced as I am, there is still this little voice at the back of my mind telling me that perhaps I will regret, that the handling will be awful...
It is good to know that the 55 is a great car from a previous Boxster driver!!

I cant believe you guys are complaining about 3 month waits I ordered mine in April 04 got it in Dec 04. I can do 3 months standing on my head. Oh and its worth the wait. wolf

I actually put down my deposit September of 2004. Finally got the build date in April of this year, and will see the car in a week or so. So it's been a bit of a wait for myself as well (9 months, just like a little baby )

Actually, it looks like I ordered roughly the same car that you have: Orion Blue with Ash/black interior. Or is that a solid black interior on yours?

I joined the torture club yesterday
Ordered my 55 yesterday. Dealer said to expect 3-4 month wait. I suppose the time depends on the dealer and his position on the list for allocations. There was one other vehicle ahead of mine. Last year they sold only one 55. I can only hope it doesn't take longer.

So get a REAL jump on the "wait list" and put your $2,000 down on the SLK63 (my2007 or 2008). Or, for that matter, the SL63 and then sell your slot (if your dealer allows it).

Is it an '06? When did you order it?
Did you get the 320 Entertainment package? If so, did it come with the CD changer? Did it include the iPod integration kit?
Oh, and what color interior did you go with?
