New Information on the 63 engine
Inside Line (Edmunds.com new website) has a new article regarding this engine. They even test drove a car with the engine.
The engine is actually 6.2 liters. 504 hp at 6800 rpm. 456 lb ft of torque at 5200 rpm.
It was developed so that Mercedes could use the new 7 speed transmission, which will only handle 542 lb ft of torque.
The engine weighs 55 lbs less than the 55 supercharged engine. The new engine block has different dimensions that the 55 engine block. The cyllinders have a very special process for their lining.
It has a compression ratio of 11.3:1.
Most importantly, Mercedes told Edmunds that it will debut in the ML63 at the Frankfort auto show. There will then be a C63, SLK63, E63, S63, CLK 63 and CL63.
