Transmission Problems?
Yes, you're reading correctly. Over the last weekend, my brand new SLK55 AMG in silver was taken on a road trip to my cousin in Long Island with a stop in new york. on the night of saturday, i go around a corner, obviously downshifted before, get around it, and try to calmly drive up the hill.
out of NOWHERE... i just rev up, but stop moving - my car gets slower and i stand in the middle of a backstreet with a car that doesn't go into gear. Reverse didn't work, the other 3 Drive modes didn't work - yes, my transmission died after 2,000 miles despite a careful 1,500 mile break-in.
turns out, the transmission has to be COMPLETELY replaced, i couldn't believe it.
as a 'sorry', my dealership let me trade it in for another new 2006 SLK55 AMG , obsidian black and beige nappa leather, however, just wanted to let you guys know about this problem.
peace

Its your electronic transmission control module. Mine went bad in the first few hundered miles (exact same issue - I knew what it was instantly....Sure enough it was replaced & bingo - issue gone). Its an electronic failure, not mechanical one, and the root cause is a faulty (outsourced) tranny control module. Its a simple swap out & its fixed.-Matt

Thanks for the heads up on that problem.
Hopefully I won't encounter it anytime soon.
I can't imagine driving and losing the transmission in a car - definately a very frustrating event!!

I had the same problem in my '05 '55, and replacing the trans valve body (which I'm told includes the control module) did cure the problem. This was about 4000 miles ago, and it appears to have cured the issue. I am having downshifting problems with the gear shift lever, but I beleive that it's unrelated to the first problem.
