insurance cost for slk55 amg
I pay over $700 a month for all my autos (6) and I'm 44 yrs old.
To start out, insurance is one of those things that usually improves with age. I know that I paid as much for insurance as I did for my first vehicles when starting out. Now after several years of descent records and aging, rates are far more reasonable. However, when I moved to Germany, they went back up considerably from what they were in the States. The biggest thing when starting out is to shop around as has been brought up here a few times. I know there are a lot of younger people on this forum and hope that they give their input and perspective.
As for affording things. You can argue this back and forth. So far the arguements have been very vague giving nothing of specifics. Every person has a different set of priorities and goals in their life. Therefore, nothing is absolute. It was stated earlier that you should never finance your "luxury" car because you would be so much better off to save and pay cash. There are so many variables in this that again it comes down to priorities. Personally, I financed my car and plan on keeping it for quite a while. I do have the money to have paid cash. On my loan, I will pay a total of 10% over the original cost but over that 5 years (if I were to take that long to pay it off) based on a very conservative return from my current investments that money will be up more than 50%. Also, the SLK55 is the car I want now and that is my priority, who knows what will be around in 5 years if I were saving from scratch.
I fully believe in free speech and fight everyday to defend that right in the US. But if you want to make a point that people will be willing to listen to, offer thorough discussion points with actual numbers and specific information without berating them for doing something that you don't agree with. Teach don't lecture and people will be interested to hear what you have to say rather than getting pissed and blocking out any valid points that you actually do make.
Enough soap box, I just had to throw in my 2 cents.

No where in his original post did he say they couldn't afford 4k a year for insurance. What he did say was that this sounded like too much (it does) and does anyone know other options? At 24 with a good record i think that number is ridiculously high, but who knows?
This life we all live is full of choices, and just because this young fellow's lady chooses a to drive an expensive car does not mean they're doomed to failure. Personally I would never buy any quickly depreciating asset new, but when it comes to travel (what depreciates faster than that?!) I've been frivolous in the past. Enjoy your car, and get the best price you can buying what you love. I'd be shocked if you didn't find someone with a rate under 2500 a year.
Let's move on.
I am running Pirelli P-Zero nero 255/30-19 in the rear.
Only about two people have actually told him how much they're paying for insurance.

I have 4 cars and pay a grand total of about 2400 a year, for a few reasons:
1. I'm old like berliener (42)
2. I pay for my cars outright so I don't need to carry low deductibles (mine is 2000 for collision I believe)
3. I don't get in accidents or have any tickets.
None of these factors will help you much in searching for a lower price for that SLK at 24, but there you have it. One of the few things in life you would rather be 42 than 24 for
I am 41 and living in Germany. With no accidents or tickets on my record and 3 cars, 3 motorcycles and my home insured with the same company, I currently pay $1,100 per year for the SLK55. This is higher being here in Germany and the motorcycles are 3-4 times higher than in the states with the same company.

Its interesting that you are VERY critical of people who are making enquiries to get some indicative prices for insurance, you then "lord" it over them like you are some kind of big shot, bragging about this and that, as arrogant as only some americans know how.
The secret of your success ? Selling $2 games on ebay.......hey you must be sooooo wealthy.

Beiler, if that is how you made your money then way to go! Leave it to a Brit to "lord" over the way you made your fortune, as if that's somehow unseemly. Last time I checked, the money doesn't know where it came from, and spends just the same.
You we're offering that kid some sound advice by the way, but I bet you wish you never posted in this forum after all that!
Don't those Brits still subsidize a Queen?? I think I'll pass on their financial advice, tyvm.
Let's end this spat here and be cool.
