Hi!

I am very sure this is a fake, but I need to be 100% before I start harassing the guy.

Here are the reasons why I think its a fake:

It has only 2 exhaust ports
It had Kompressor badge on the front fenders
It only says SLK on the back, not SLK55, if it had been mine, I would have made sure people knew what hit them...

Beautiful car anyway though, wonder what it really is? A SLK350 ?

It does seem suspicious...... looks like a 350 with AMG body kit to me. The big give away is the twin rather than quad exhaust but you should also be able to tell by looking at the brakes and seats as they should both have AMG logos as far as I remember.

Of course you could ask to see the engine

Actually there is no reason to start hassling the guy about it because it's not a fake SLK55. He did not put 55 on the back. He put AMG and thats his right, especially if he put a real AMG body kit on it. He is not trying to pass it off as a 55, just an SLK with AMG parts.

It's an SLK 200, because nobody adds the Kompressor badges to the side, they come with the 1.8 liter supercharged car.

He added the AMG badge because he got an AMG kit (the "real" AMG front spoiler).

I agree. He is not faking.
I saw a black 99% SLK55, 100% AMG styling , 4 exhaust! Exhaust sound was really scarely loud as like thunder (must be louder than a real SLK55) ! I chased him and managed to have my car close enough to see a rear AMG badage and a 350 badge (no wonder he could not run away from my C55 )

I have a feeling the guy will end up getting quad exhaust... it's quite obvious it's not an AMG, and since he already splashed out for the expensive "real" AMG front bumper...

But it's his car, his baby. Let him do what he wants with it. Do try to race him on the highway tho', just for good measure

Well, i dont think he splashed out for the AMG bumper as I believe he purchased the vehicle with the AMG body kit, side skirts and rear apron included. I believe its a package that MB offers. I think the only thing this person added was teh AMG emblem on the right hand side. I dont see anything wrong with that....

You don't get that front bumper with anything else but a real 55 AMG. The non 55 version of the car gets a bumper with body colored wings on each side of the nose, and no side air vents.

The only way you can have such a kit, is to purposely ask for it instead of the standard "amg" bumper available for the non amg vehicles.

The AMG cars are finished off in the AMG factory. Therefore you cannot have the car with that particular skirt the very second you order it, unless it's an AMG.

HOWEVER, you can negotiate with a dealer to have the AMG bumper ordered and installed just prior to taking delivery of your car. In the end, it comes to the same thing really... just that you not only paid for the car with the original bumper, but for the AMG one as well (so this guy most likely has the non-AMG, or the simpler AMG bumper hanging around in his garage... unless he sold it).

AFAIK only the special order AMGs (you know, by the Sheik of 1001 nights in the Middle East) are built/finished @ AMG in Affalterbach.

Only the engines are built there, and then shipped to the production line of the car where all is assembled together with the non-AMGs.

The situation you refer to is from days gone by...

Ok, I could be mistaken then. But the AMG specific bits always seem to be hard to come by for non-amg cars unless you ask your dealer to retrofit them.

The AMG factory however has a huge lineup of AMG cars outside their gates. All vehicles that are to be delivered to clients... How come there's so many there, even SLK 55's? mmmm

I asked mine prior to getting my 55, if they could order a 350 with the AMG front bumper, and they said it cannot be ordered like that from the factory. But it could be installed afterwards (or prior to taking order of the car).

Well, anything you want done that is not on the option list should be done afterwards, or @ AMG. Keep in mind that different countries have different option lists, and what is standard on the options-list in one country may not be possible in another. It can even depend on your dealerships contacts within Daimler Chrysler; one can make things happen while the other can't.

Lineup of AMG cars @ the AMG factory might be special orders (e.g. VMAX removal) that can't be done elsewhere. I believe the only one still genuinly being made there is the G-Class.

Not a real SLK55, but the guy never claims it is anyways.

If it's the supercharged 1.8l then the car is fine. He's got AMG parts so that justifies the badge. He's got a supercharger so it justifies the Kompressor badging.

Now if it were me I'd go debadged 100%, but it's not

I think most AMG owners would say this is not the case. The AMG badge has the most reference to the engine, not the body kit or wheels. If it has an AMG badge, it should be an AMG, similar to what an M badge on a BMW means that the vehicle is a true Motorsport car.

Otherwise AMG (factory) wouldn't put the badge on.

I've heard that in parts other than USA, AMG badge comes standard if you have the AMG sport package.

Not the case over here tho', and I don't know of any other country that would do this. Some dealers will ask you if you wish to do it (makes them another hundred bucks by adding 50 cents worth of decals on the car).

But a badge is just a badge, I've seen non M cars with M badges as well, and it's really just a showoff, as the vehicle is not a real Motorsport vehicle. And neither is a non AMG an AMG with an AMG badge, no matter how much it would want to be.

Then again, we get a lot of ricers adding Type R stickets on their Toyota's and the like
