Engine for SLK in 2007?
Been out of touch for a few months, is there any truth to the rumor that a larger engine is due(6.3)for 2007 in the SLK?
thanks

There will be no SLK63 until facelift time, that will be model year 2008. In the meantime the SLK55 will get a boost to 400hp and a "Track Sport" model with even sportier suspension and carbon fiber bits.

smandkjc - There definitely won't be a SLK63 this year, otherwise it would have been shown already. The SLK63 doesn't come until the SLK's facelift, which should be for the 2008 model year. That MB rep is mistaken.

"sportier suspension and carbon fiber bits" sounds suspiciously like 030 Perf Pkg.

This is probably the car that Germancar1 is talking about, or the car that they went off of or decided to release in greater numbers. I'd post pics but I am not allowed to....
SLK55 Special order AMG 400 HP package
01/11/05
Upon a recent visit to Affalterbach I learned that AMG has a performance kit available for the SLK 55. The kit is made by AMG. It is 100% original AMG design and parts and only available through AMG-GbmH. It includes AMG headers, revised air-intake and re-programmed ECU. Its cost is about 11,000 euros and is only available to European customers. This kit will boost horsepower to 400 HP. I own an SLK 55 in the states and after driving this test vehicle I can tell you that the AMG modifications make a huge difference. This car feels much faster than a stock SLK 55 and E 55.
From the pictures you will notice the extensive use on carbon fiber. Interior (Doors and instrument cluster). Exterior (Mirrors and front brake cooling ducts). Also notice how AMG has replaced the standard shift buttons on the steering wheel with F1 style paddle shifters and the AMG racing seats. AMG also reprograms the transmission. AMG does away with the comfort mode. This vehicle has Sport1 mode, Sport 2 mode and Manual mode. They clam the shifts in the sport 2 mode are 50% quicker that the normal AMG Speedshift. I can personally attest that the shifts are crazy fast. They would not share performance specifications but the car feels like it could do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile in the low 12’s. The interior modifications are extra and not included with the performance kit. This car is so cool.

Well that does sound like the car, but I think the one that CAR magazine tested is slightly different it is based on the one-off SLK55 that was created for a very wealthy Asian investor a few months ago.

Translated by eMercedesBenz.com:
A while back we told you about the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Ultimate Experience Asia, a custom race-inspired variant of the SLK F1 Safety Car produced specifically for a wealthy Asian investor.
At the time of the story, the press release noted that a small number of cars based on this SLK "Ultimate Experience Asia" would be produced and made available to consumers, but at the time no additional details were given. Recently however, a few additional rumors began circulating that shed some new light on the topic.
According to the Dutch publication AutoTelegraaf.nl [via Autoblog.nl], we may see a variant of the SLK Ultimate Experience Asia as early as July. Although details are scarce, it's rumored that the newest SLK will be titled the SLK Tracksport and fitted with a 400 horsepower M113 E 55 EVO Motor. There's also rumors circulating that a new Sport package will be made available for all SLK models, which may include new wheels and adjustments to the headlights.
Of course, we don't have any basis to back up the rumors and we're not vouching for its validity, but isn't conjecture grand?
For more info, you can check out the full article over at AutoTelegraaf.nl (it's in Dutch), and be sure to check back every hour on the hour for any late-breaking SLK Tracksport news.
This is the car that CAR tested in either their May or June issue, I don't have the issue in front of me right now. CAR stated that about 50 of these will be built every month, not sure if the U.S. will get the car or not, but this is an optional package or seperate model, not all 07' SLK55's will get this treatment obviously.

The roof on the SLK pictured above is fixed and does not retract.
Why would anyone go for that? I don't care if it has 1,000 horsepower, no vario roof = no interest.
I hope that Mercedes does not delude itself the way BMW has with the Z4 Coupe. At the recent NYC auto show not one person who was near me at the Z4 Coupe display thought the car looked good in person. It was unanimous that the Z4 is butt-ugly with weird proportions.

For the standard SLK55 AMG, I will go on record to predict that there will be NO CHANGE in the engine or its output for MY2007. I agree that the most likely scenario is that increased output or a brand new engine (like the 6.2L V8) will make it into the SLK-AMG car at the time of the facelift (MY2008 or MY2009).

20+ to list......
Well, I went to MB of Manhattan this afternoon to check on the status of my E and my wife's C, which will arrive sometime next week. Anyway, the sales representative who sold me the cars happens to be a close friend to an AMG branch director within Mercedes headquarter in NJ. What the director said was there's no definite answer to an SLK63 AMG, but if the public shows enough interest, AMG will build them in a limited production run, but even if it happens, it won't happen until the MY2008 is released. I told my rep put my name down on the list, so I guess I am the first one to reserve one in the East Coast when it comes out.

I love how they tell people stuff like that. I can't blame them though because the SLK55 has another year or so to go. Often times we know more about MB's plans than most connected with the company! Of course there will be a SLK63 along with a C63 for either 2008 or 2009 in the case of the C63. The old 5.5L V8 was great, but its on its way out. The SLK model that they might build for us if the U.S. market shows interesting will be a limited run of that Special SLK55 AMG posted earlier in this thread. That I can see being a maybe so car, but not the SLK63. Can you imagine a SLK with 440hp+? I never thought a CLK would get 475hp!

06' SLK55 w/030 pack
back from germany
Just left the factory and spent 4 hours under and around the SLK you guys are talking about. I am trying to get release of part numbers and get it past the governmental morass. It was raining so testing possible. Lead tech and I were discussing weight reduction and distribution in addition to engine modifications. I will cover more in a few days.
