Slk63

I am deciding a Z4M Coupe or a SLK55, my follow-up on SLK is a bit outdated:-

1. Has the SLK received a major facelift already ( a true facelift like the new 2007 E-classs)

2. Are there any news whether the new 6.2 AMG engine will be implanted to the current generation SLK55 to come up with a SLK63 model in 2007?

Well the current SLK is quite new. It's a "2006" model.

I heard the rumor that MB will NOT be putting the 63 engine in the SLK. But that was a while back.

As a trend, most highend performance models get treated with new DOHC engines, C55 is outgoing, CLK gets the classy 63 treat. In view of the much cheaper 343hp Z4M coupe launch, I ain't sure the SLK55 still have a market position?

The SLK so far has had pretty much no facelifting of any kind. All the lower bodywork and taillamps, etc. are still exactly the same as at launch. I wouldn't worry about it. Any changes down the road before the next redesign are likely to be minor plastic parts changes, which you could easily upgrade if you really felt your SLK was out of style.

No, only rumor, inneundo, and speculation. No one outside of MB knows.

Regarding the Z4M coupe, obviously it doesn't have a retractable roof, it's slower than the SLK55, and I believe it only comes in manual (if that matters to you). But it is considerably cheaper. Personally I think it's pretty good looking (better than the Z4 roadster) but the Z4 interior I've always felt is crap.

Did you think about a Cayman S?

The Z4M has 330hp, not 343. More importantly, it only puts down 262lb-ft of torque vs. 376lb-ft for the SLK55. Plus, it doesn't have a folding hardtop.

I don't think the SLK55 has to worry about the Z4M. You could argue they're not even direct competitors.

Thanks for comments.

Our SLK55 base price is 30% more than paying a Z4M. Considering there are more tempting payable options for the SLK than Z4, that could mean I will end up paying 40% more for a SLK55. SLK55 is no doubt a more luxury styled sports car than Z4M. For that much extra amount, I thus hope I am getting the top edge styling & technology of the SLK and not something I need to fix it later.

A retractable roof is still tempting as in our polluted, bad weather, dense smoky city, we need to be ready to close the top any time quickly.

Our Z3M is 343/7900 hp, not 330hp. (0-100, 5s).
Torque is 365/4900 Nm/rpm

Z4M not offering the SMG III is definitely another big hesitation.

CaymanS here is priced close to the SLK55 and I would not have another thought but to take the SLK55. Just read that the cheaper Boxter S is getting a treat of the 306hp CaymanS engine; so I need to revisit this again.
