few questions on an 06 SLk 55

I am checking out a used 06 SLk 55 with 5K miles. For regular street performance driving the handling of the car is more than enough IMHO. The car drives nice with no squeaks or rattles and I have a couple of questions

1) The passenger seat when moved all the way, the back rest obviously touches the area behind the seat and makes a squeaking noise while driving. Easily corrected by moving it few inches to front. Is this squeaking caused by rubbing of the seat back to rear area normal?

I thought the car seat automatically moves it forward when you move the seat or back rest way toooo back, am i wrong?

2) the 06 has shift buttons and I had no prblem using them in S mode , infact they are easy to operate than the stiff paddles on 07 IMHO. Do 06 owners have any issues with the shift buttons?

3) Coming to S mode , does the current gear always show or after few minutes of NOT using the switches foes it go to D mode? and if it does, how do u see which gear U R in?

4) what is Average tire life of rear tires when driven agressively once in a while.

5) what can be the Average MPG for 50% city and 50% highway driving

Thanks

1) Usually the seat will auto adjust so that it doesn't rub or make contact. However, some combinations in movement may still cause contact. Just move the seat forward. If it still squeaks, maybe its coming from something else.

2) no problems with the buttons. I like the look of the paddles more but the buttons work just fine.

3) The gear in S mode is the highest gear it will use. ie 5 means it will still downshift all the way to 1st. It will select the most appropriate gear and will upshift accordingly until 5th is reached. It will only go past 5th if redlined, then 6 will be displayed and that will now be it's max gear. It will never shift into D mode unless the driver forces the change, the car is turned off, or you shift into another mode or reverse.

4) 15K or so.

5) I average 18mpg

1. Most cases it will auto adjust but if you put in the rearmost/down position it will still hit. It will not auto sense it is in the lowest and furthest position back. You need to move it forward a tiny bit in that case.

2. Same as DSB

3. Same as DSB

4. 8-10k

5. I average around 20 mpg.

Digital Climate Control ... I have it ... don't know what its like without it ... so no comment.

Re digital control....

At the time of purchase, I didn't get the dig control. The package consisted of
-dig climate control
-garage door opener
-rain sensing wipers
Cost was around $1500.

However, I bought the module from MBenzl. He is a member on this forum. The dig climate control cost me about $300. It was installed in about 20 minutes. They manual and digital operate very similiarly. The digital unit looks better. If you get the dig climate control originally, it comes with additional filter(s).

Holy ****, you must have a HEAVY foot! I average about 14L/100km and I don't spare the ponies either *L*. That's about 19-20mpg combined for me.

All the rest as dsb pointed out. I'll add that I like the digital climate control as you just set it and forget it (comes standard on Canadian cars as well).
