WOW... I can't believe I finally decided what car I was going to get. Just put a deposit on a fully loaded 2006 black/white SLK55 w/ 7,000 miles. We agreed on 54,000$ (sounds good?) With a 70,000$ budget, I was going back and forth between:
03-04 SL55/SL600
05-06 E55
05 Carrera S
01-03 911 Turbo
03-04 911 GT3
05-06 SLK55 AMG /w kompressor
I test drove most of these cars extensively and decided on the SLK w/ kompressor. After driving SL's, I had mixed feelings; crazy fast in the straightline, but not sporty enough and feel like a boat in comparison to other cars. 911 turbo, I really liked but couldn't afford a newer one and didn't want to deal with problems later. Carrera S I also liked, but felt it didn't have enough power to justify the price tag. Finally, I liked pretty much everything about the SLK55. Very sporty, adequate power, not very expensive.
I wasn't 100% sure about the image/looks of an SLK, especially when you compare to to the 911 and SL, but I think I'll get over that. The car is being sent to C2 Design for kleemanization ASAP. Here are the pics, cool interior, right?

Thanks! I have talked to Chris from C2 design (www.c2dusa.com) and plan to do the following:
Kleemann blower /w ecu
Kleemann headers
Kleemann LSD
Kleemann sport cats
Custom exhaust
Carlsson suspension
Kleemann brakes (not sure about this one)
Lightweight 18'' wheels (thinking Neez)
Semi-slick tires (RA1, R888, A048, or Pilot Cups)
Carbon fiber roof (maybe...)
If all goes well, I'll have a ~600hp SLK55 by the end of April

Maybe not 600, but I can get close. A member on this forum dynoed his kleemann SLK55 at 490whp which is not that far off. If I can get close to 500whp, I'm happy

I prefer Bilstein PSS9 over Carlsson.
Brembo Monoblock GTRs are superior to Kleemann brakes also.
You can't go wrong with the other Kleemann stuff. I plan on swapping my HPS kit out with a Kleemann or Twin Turbo setup next month. I only got 430rwhp with my blower.

I would recommend Quaife LSD over Kleemann LSD. Read the comparos on this forum and on the net.

As far as the suspension, my shop has the carlsson one they want to get rid of, so they told me 1,000$ installed, which seems like a good deal. I wasn't really planning to change the AMG suspension, but figured why not

Thanks for the feedback AMGSC. Could you tell me why Quaife LSD is better than kleemann? Most SLK55 owners seem to go with the kleemann unit...

I do, however, strongly recommend you stay with Kleemann for ALL your mods (including the LSD). Do not mix & match alternate manufacturers speed parts. Many nubies (not that you are a "nubie", just mentioning people not accustomed to blown 55 powerplant mods) do "mix" & it creates performance integration problems. Although we are only referring to an LSD, the Kleemann unit is warrantied & works excellent (although the ESP will still engage to pull back on the power due to excessive wheelspin). Disengaging ESP helps limiting spin, but it still engages unless in dyno mode. The car will roll the tires at anything below ~75 mph. Its pretty sprite.
Congrats - I heard from Brandon (Kleemann) last year that C2 does good work. Lets us know how you like the car when you get it back. See yaaaaa!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I will keep you updated on the progress.
Thanks for the feedback Matt, I followed your project closely and it was definitely an inspiration for me. I will probably stay with everything kleemann, since that is what C2 recommended. They are very experienced with the SLK55, mine will be the 6th they supercharge!
Congrats!

Congrats. I just did the same search as you a little over a month ago and came to the same decision. The SLK55 is a very fun ride. In fact the E doesn't get much road time anymore. SLK is so much more interesting to drive.

Exactly. I was thinking of buying an SL55/SL600 (or E55 even) before, I thought it looked better and was more of a "guy's car" than SLK55. However, I came out dissapointed after test driving it. SLK55 is definitely more fun to drive, and with the upgrades I can surpass SL55's acceleration. It will probably wont be that much slower than SL65 once its done....

Congrats on your purchase. It should be a lot of fun!
Do you expect to track the car? If so it'd be interesting to see what 1/4 mile times you can reach. The fastest SLK55 on Dragtimes---a full K8 installation running on drag radials--ran 11.759 with a trap speed of 119.880 MPH. Very fast but there are a handful of E55s that have posted better times without using NOS. The difference could be simply driver/track/weather variability, of course. Getting another data point on a K8 SLK55 would be interesting.
Either way, though, enjoy that beast!

Congrats on the car and on getting it Kleemannized! I've seen Chriss' work and they are one of the best barnone!
Just go all out and get the cams as well. It's worth it imo. Good luck and keep us posted.

Wow, that is awesome, and $54k!
I am looking at a SLK 350 new for that price...hmmmm
Looks like I might be in the market for a used SLK 55...

I definitely plan on tracking, autocrossing, and drag racing the car... otherwise there isn't really a point in upgrading. I have some experience with tracking my turbo lotus elise, SLK55 will be a lot different though....
MHPHOCKEY, definitely get a used SLK55. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.. you'll get much way more performance for the same money.
