Here's what I suctioned out via the dipstick tube:

Well, it was time for an "interim" oil change before some track time and between scheduled maintenance requirements, so I was curious about how much oil I could actually suck out of the oil pan of my SLK55 via the dipstick. I used the suction-type "Oil Changing System" sold by MBCA for $48 at

https://www.mbca.org/store/prodinfo....18377674377899

Before starting, the display indicated 8.6 quarts. I was surprised that I was able to get 8.3 quarts through the dipstick as shown in the photo. Plus the old filter which I changed retained some oil. I added about 8.5 quarts which brought the level back to an indicated 8.6 quarts.

I found that by jacking the car 6 inches or so at the left front, I was able to get the final amount out of the oil pan.

While I wouldn't recommend this method be used every time (vs. opening the drain plugs), this seems like a reasonable easy approach for "extra" oil changes. Hmm -- now I wonder if MB uses the dipstick approach for scheduled oil changes.

My local dealer has mobile service where they send the tech out to my home and do the service. He did the exactly that when he service my CLS55, a machine pumped the old oil out the dip stick tube, no need to raise the car.

Thanks for the post. Very useful information. I wonder what the savings total when you factor in cost of oil/filter and recycling fee vs going to the dealership.

The last oil change the dealer did for my wife's car was $189.
The last oil change I did for my wife's car:

$40 for oil
$15 for filter (http://www2.partstrain.com/partlisti...+05+Oil+Filter)
recycling fee at Autozone = Free

I bought one of these to do the work ($80):

It's actually easy to do the oil change yourself since the oil filter is located within reach.
