2009 SLK & 55 engine

So now that the c63 is out with its 6.2L v8 that goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, I wonder if AMG will up the 55 engine's output to 400hp like in the black series. This would make the Slk55 as fast as the 63 (0-60 in 4.5) and keep its AMG customers happy while dealing with the inability to fit the 63 engine in the slk chassis. What do you guys think? 2009 model a 400hp one?

Some members got 4.3 seconds to 60mph stock, I am not sure if MB will release the 6.2L into the SLK but if they do it wont dissapoint for sure especially since its higher revving and has a better torque curve for the track.

MB / AMG should make the SLK lighter, My car's registration paper's say that it weight's 1,540kg which I think is slightly heavy for such a small car.

I think it would definitely be neccessary to increase power of SLK55 in the near future to at least 400hp to keep it competitive with new M3 (420hp), C6 Corvette (430hp), Audi RS4 (420hp) and other cars in its price range. Since they are increasing the hp of SLK350, its safe to assume a healthy increase for SLK55 as well.

P.S. 0-60 means absolutely nothing. One person could get a 0-60 of 5 seconds and another person could get 4.3 seconds on the same SLK55, it all depends on how you launch the car and the available traction. If you put slicks on your SLK55, you could get a 0-60 of 3.8 seconds or less.

Looking for a new toy.
The SLK55 can easily be raised to the 400hp level (shorty headers and a more agressive tune - that's basically it for the black series powerwise). I believe that scenario is more likely than an R171 SLK63. Just MHO. As for 0-60, I agree that it's one of the most meaningless performance stats out there. It's as much dependant on traction, probably more so, than power. And no one really races 0-60, way too short of a contest!

0-60 was just a reference of what most people will look at when looking at the specifications. My intention was that the power should be raised and if you can't have the 63 (r171 chassis can't fit the engine and/or xtra fuel pumps) then for the time being an Slk55 400hp would be a good option and easy to do.

0-60 is not only meaningless, but often misleading. My SLK55 has over 500hp now, but on street tires, my 0-60 time is probably worse than stock

What most people fail to realize is that HP does not necessarily translate into 0-60 times. When I had my lotus elise (190hp), I often had no problem taking cars like Z06's and Vipers w/ 500hp+ in 0-60 since they have poor traction at launch, front-engined RWD cars are the worst in that regard. No matter how much power you have, if you're not putting it to the ground, all you're doing is either burning rubber or seeing "ESP" light flashing.
