Availability of 2009 SLK55

Does anyone know when the new 2009 SLK55 will be available for purchase here in the United States? While I am interested in this car, I think that purchasing the current version, given all the improvements in the 2009 model.

We're not even in the year 2008 yet... hah

Generally, I think new model years the US come out around September/October period.

Since the facelift SLK will come out in Europe in April and is supposed to come out as MY09 in the US, you'll have to wait roughly half a year longer just to get it. Hope you're patient.

You can start putting your order in late April, early May but will not get your SLk until mid August to early Sept.

The 2009 SLK goes on sale here in the U.S. in April 08. The car will be shown to the public in about 15 days at the Detroit Autoshow.

Nope. Can't fit the 6.2 liter's three fuel pumps in the SLK engine bay.

Its definitely disappointing that SLK55 is not getting hp upgrades. They should've at least upgraded to the new 5.5L engine from 550 models... looks like all the dimensions are the same and it has 380hp/390lb-ft torque.

no engine upgrade, no purchase...

is my new motto.

why in the world would i want to get an SLK with old, inefficient iron?

i was thinking about dumping the SL65 and getting the SLK63 when i finally -- FINALLY -- decide upon an SUV and get it.

as Addicted2Speed wrote, at least the 550 engine, or a variant thereof, should be dropped into the SLK. at least...

They will probably only use the 63 engine when the new SLK comes out... probably in 2010 or so. However, its not all that bad considering you can purchase a used low mileage SLK55 for mid 40k's and can then upgrade it to 500-550hp with additional 20k. The total investment would still be very reasonable considering the performance you get. Supercharged SLK55 will always be faster than a 6.3L engine SLK63 too.

However, why would you dump an SL65 for an SLK55/63, even if the SLK55 is supercharged? Best case scenario for a supercharged SLK55 is 11.7 @ 120mph in the 1/4 mile, while chipped SL65 is capable of 10's @ 126mph+. I guess the only benefit is better handling of the SLK55... but its still a lot of torque you're giving up. Hey, if you want to trade your SL65 for my supercharged (550hp) SLK55, shoot me a PM

dumping the SL65...

handling is the reason i'd switch from the SL to the SLK, and from the SL65 to an SLK63. but no SLK63, no dumping of the SL65.

and i didn't mean to suggest i'd be dumping the SL65 for an SUV. rather, at some point, i must get an SUV AND i'd like a hardtop convertible that handles better than the 65.

now, here's a little entertainment for you...

driving in boca this afternoon around 5pm, a black SLK55 -- looking very new -- with dark tinted windows kept pulling up to my SL65 and revving it's engine. it'd pull forward, drop back, pull forward drop back. then, it came up beside me on the left, did the same taunting maneuver.

i was talking on the cradled phone with my business partner, who asked whether that revving sound was my engine. he thought it was malfunctioning.

i told him it was some goober trying to goad me into a street race. he laughed about it, as did i.

i kept waving the driver off, but he -- i'm assuming it was a guy -- kept it up for about a minute until he shot off without his race.

i think it was on yamato approaching congress. anybody who knows the area would be silly to test the boca raton police. they're not so forgiving...even of two AMGs testing their mettle.

It was 408whp when the car was running too rich, so I brought it back for tuning. After ECU tuning and new air filters, it dyno'd at 430whp

I still don't understand the math where 430whp = 550hp?

430whp x .15 driveline loss = 64.5 for a total of 494.5hp.

With automatic, you lose at least 20%... which comes out to around 520hp.

Even then it's 25-30hp less than what kleemann claims , that's a pretty big difference.

No, I believe your math is just incorrect. The drivetrain loss begins with Hp at the crank, not the rear wheels. 20% X 550 = 110Hp. 550 - 110 = 440 rwhp. Addicted put down 430 rwhp ~ a 10 rwhp delta which is pretty minor & can be attributed to differences from car to car, AIT, if the car was already heat soaked, etc, etc. He has a pretty strong car. See ya.
