slk55 vs e63 anyone?
hi guys,
I asked this question in the e211 forum and got not too much response. I'm just curious to know if anyone here ran against a e63 amg and what was the results. Thanks
george

Agree. And we spend most if not all of our time between 0 and 85 mph. Don't forget the other 2/3s of the equation; braking and cornering. The tiny SLK will crush the portly E63. Especially if springs and wider wheels/tires are installed.

You're right about 0-60 there won't be much difference, but after that E63 will walk away no problem. From a roll, E63 will take it every time, stock for stock. If you look at 1/4 mile trap speeds, its around 110mph for SLK55 and 115mph for E63.. that's about 5 car lenghts by the end of 1/4 mile and the gap will only grow. 0-150, SLK55 takes about 28 seconds, while E63 takes only 23 seconds, which is a huge difference (according to C&D tests:

Note:
In those 2 links you pasted the e63 only beats the slk55 by .1 sec in 1/4 time that wouldn't be 5 car lengths. Even from a roll the e63 only bests the slk55 by .1 (5-60) so it really doesn't get an advantage there. Maybe at a higher starting speed it might like 20-30mph. Basically the e63 has to hunt the slk55 down in last part of the 1/4 at 70mph+ that is why it has a higher trap speed. After the 1/4 it gets ugly and the e63 just walks away.
I think because of the SLK55s light weight combined with it's current performance #s, AMG is reluctant to up it's hp over 400(just going to DOHC heads would probably bump hp over 400). Let's say AMG bumped SLK55 hp up to 450-475, this would probably make it the fastest(besides the SLR) AMG, since it is so light compared to other models. Granted other much more $$$ models would pull on it over 120mph, but how often are you driving that fast?
