toughest performance tire on potholes?

i'm looking to buy some pirelli p-zero's, and i'm wondering, anyone know if these are tough against potholes?

anyone know of a tire which performs well, AND helps prevent wheel-damage?

just bought some beautiful forged wheels, and i would like to protect my investment!

thanks so much!

I think much will have to do on the profile. Toyo are great ride, but soft. You need the hardest compound w/o sacrificing performance. I've got Nitto Invo's on my 55 and love them. However, we certainly don't have winter torn roads like you do in Iowa here in FL. Pirelli is major sponsor of AMG and their tour, and they did take a beating in Miami at the Homestead Speedway. That being said, the only thread I ever hydro'd on was Pirelli...so my opinions are bit biased.

I installed P-zeros on my girlfriend's 2007 328i and I love them. Great traction and ride, and they seem to be holding up well. She has the 18 inch sport package wheels and so far no damage or issues to the wheels even driving in Los Angeles streets (she is oblivious on avoiding pot holes). No tire will ever protect against a large enough pot hole, however.

the p-zeros are great performance tires. as for potholes they are terrible i'm on my 3rd set of tires. the tend to rip on the side walls

I live in New Jersey and unfortunately huge potholes are a fact of life. My '55 came with the P-Zeros and I thought they were unacceptably susceptible to pothole damage. I had to replace several tires while I had them because of large bubbles in the sidewalls. I switched to Michelin PS2's and never had an issue despite that I thought I hit worse potholes...in fact I bent one of the wheels and cracked another despite not damaging the tires at all. Also my opinion was that the Michelin's had a FAR more comfortable ride than the Pirelli's (which I thought had a terribly jarring ride) with no apparent tradeoff in handling. Very recently I bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's at a great price from Tirerack. They have an even more comfortable ride than the Michelin's, but I quickly noticed they it is now much easier to make the car oversteer, at least when air temperatures are in the 40's.
