SLK55///AMG The MONSTER on the block
Target should be for a 2007 SLK 55. Still has the BIG brakes, paddle shifts, and more warranty than 2005 or 2006. More options are best. I have a 2005 and recently purchased an extended warranty. Consider a 2005 or 2006 if the price, mileage, and options are right. Car is OK for me without performance mods.

What he said! If you are looking for a easily mod-able car, then the SLK is probably not the best choice - other than some exhaust upgrades (not really cheap), and some very expensive bolt-on's (supercharger) - there's not a lot there IMHO - certainly nothing like the CTSV's price per hp.

Ride on a '55 is nothing like the CTSV, much harsher - so take it for a spin. If you find one with the 030 package, it's even stiffer.

NAV on a MB is iffy - try one out before you make a decision there. For me air-scarf and BiXenon are must haves. COMAND is nice if you want to add an iPod later. CD Changer is a pain, as it renders the glove box useless.

Pop over to slkworld.com, lots of great people over there with '55's to help steer your the right way.

Test drove a SLK55 in Alb over the weekend, nice car but maybe a bit small.Car ran good, everything worked but appeared that it lived outside. On the lot was also a SL55 AMG,forget year, the wife liked the styling better.Maybe the longer wheelbase is the direction i'm heading? My biggest concern is the auto trans,I have been shifting gears for a long time.I am wanting an auto trans so the wife can drive also, teaching her to drive a stick is hopeless!

I would have to agree on getting an '07, w/the 030. But disagree on the modability. We get roughly a 10% increase in hp/tq on these cars. We also broaden the power band, sharpen the throttle response and get rid of that nasty speed limiter.

I friggen love the styling of the 2 door benz, beautiful cars! However i'm even closer to putting forged internals in my caddy and upping the boost for half the cost.Maybe a smoken deal will present itself and i'll do both.
